The mixing levers showed up today!! Woo Hoo.

They don't have the same travel that the extensions do, but they are longer than the stock arms. I may put the extensions on these, but I'll have to grind a little on the end of the Zeal arms for the nut on the back of the ball attached to the extensions.

I haven't recieved the new head assembly yet. It didn't ship until the 18th. I'm also planning on throwing in some digital servos and a better gyro next month. Just don't want to take chances with standard servos. Once I get it fixed up, I won't be afraid to do some basic aerobatics with it.

You get all the neat toys, where are you finding the Zeal parts? I'm jealous.

If you look at the kyosho America website, they have most of the zeal parts in stock!!!!!

You have to search by part number.

Unfortunately they don't ship to Oz

The seasaw head showed up today. Not too dificult to install. I lost about 1* of pitch going to the Zeal mixing arms. I've got about +- 8* of pitch now. I also installed some Align Carbon 600 paddels on the flybar. They are much lighter than stock. I think it will liven up the cyclic a bit. Can't wait to try it out!!

Took the Concept out and hovered it around today. Every thing is working great!! The paddels did improve the cyclick response a bit. Got it all re-trimmed and hovering great. The weather is supposed to get better the next few weeks, so I hope to get a couple of photos of it in the air.

I switched my tail servo to a boom mount on the SR using the control wire from a Raptor 30 and a mount I bought off line.

Reading through this thread I read where there are concerns that when you use a HH gyro the drive wire for the tail can get stressed and snap. So this got me worrying because of a twitch I had picked up in my tail.

Thanks to Quickster I was able to locate an NHP carbon tail drive. This seems like a nice little unit and the price from Ron's was great.

After removing the original drive wire I noticed that it was about 3/8 to a 1/2 inch longer than the carbon drive. Is this normal? Are they all that way on the SR?

The drive does state on the package that it is for the Concept 30SR, but when I installed the drive it would not actually hold tension until it was completely seated. Just want to make sure this sounds normal before I take it up in the morning.

Well thats strange! Is there any chance you have a DX and not an SR? The DX has a shorter tail than the SR. Perhaps it was a DX with SR upgrades to the head etc but still has the shorter DX tail?

Hang on a minute....I got that all back to front! You must have the longer Nexus/concept VR tail boom and drive wire. That would explain your tube drive being too short.

It is the original tail boom that came with the kit. Once seated the drive spins smoothly and will hold tension if I try to turn the main gear while holding the tail.

It seems to be ok but it just didn't engage as solidly as the wire until it was seated into the frame.

Another question, between replacing the old Futaba-154 gyro with the align 780 and moving the rudder servo to the tail boom the Helicopter wants to be tail heavy.

I can make it level back out but it takes almost 100 grams to do so. does this seem excessive?

It does sound a lot to me! If possible you would be better off with a heavier battery. At least the extra weight will be useful!

My carbon NHP drive tube is the same length as the wire one without the aluminum piece on the end. Its the same length as just the wire. Mine works fine. I had a chance to take it out today and fly it. The cyclick is much better. I did a few loops with it and they are much tighter than before. Its also flying very smooth. I had to add about an ouce of weight to the nose of the canopy to ballance mine out. It may still be just a tad tail heavy, but it flys fine. Can't wait to put some more time on it.

That does make me feel better. I took the tail box back off and checked the seating from the rear, and I pulled the boom to check the seating from the front, both seemed fine. Both ends hold tension very good.

I'll be heading out soon to test it and see how everything comes together. Will check back later.

Not good

Just got back from the field, not good!!

The Concept was flying great the tail was quick, precise and smooth. Took a couple of turns right and left from a hover and it felt solid, the blades were tracking dead on, the throttle responsive everything was good.

Next I took it up and and did a figure eight, everything felt good, the tail was right on the stick movement. Then I came back into a hover was up about 20ft or so and did a slow steady pirouette left, the nose went around perfectly and stopped right where I asked it to with no bounce at all. Did a couple more and they were the same 2 left and 2 right.

I decided to try and speed it up a little so I did a quick left pirouette and stopped great. Just after it stopped it started to make a slow left turn with no input, I gave right stick and it kept turning left slowly, I tried again to give a right command with no result. Once I saw that it was not going to stop and that it was speeding up I started to lower the pitch and pulled the throttle hold. As the helicopter came down I tried an auto and slowed the momentum but there was just not enough inertia to make a smooth landing. The good thing is that I had slowed the decent and the head to the point that the two major problems were the tail boom and the flybar, not even a nick on the blades.

Took it back to the table and pulled the boom. I just couldn't figure out what happened, the boom was seated both to the frame and to the tail box. After I got the boom out I looked in where the boom goes into the frame and the end of the coupling was banged up. looked at that end of the drive and I could see where there was marks on the tip.
