I think mode 9 just tells the ESC you are using Lipo's.

You don't have to use mode 9 but it is nice if you put a discharged pack in and fly again.

For the guys who use lots of different packs and forget to set mode 11 using their weakest pack, mode 9 can help if you have a really weak battery too.

I just use mode 4 (and 1,7,9), I prefer hearing the different rpms, tells me if there is a problem with a battery.

How does one determine if one pack is weaker than another? Fly it?

In mode 4, stronger packs will produce higher headspeed in most cases. I setup my 120hv in mode 4 with modes 9 and 10 activated. Kinda cool, when you plug in the pack, it counts the cells then rings like a telephone. Sounded so much different than mode 4 alone did.

So you can have many modes activated at once?

If that is that case, do I set the esc as a mode 4, then mode 11, then the one that counts the cells?

and I thought these were easy to program!

No, you just activate mode 1 to reset the jive, then mode 11 for set rpm mode, then mode 9 for lipo mode. They are easy to program!

Note that when you set Mode 9 for Lipo, the manner in which the cutoff will occur is complete power cut-off and NOT slow-down. You will need one of the programming cards to change the cut-off mode to slow-down.

Its all a myth, just plug in any lipo and fly it, weaker/stronger does not matter

So do you have to program lipo mode 9 last or first ?

Do you have to reset the esc by setting mode 1 first ?

How much difference will mode 11 and mode 4 make ?

Can i program mode 1, then mode 4 then mode 11 then mode 9 ooooor does it have to be mode 9 first and then mode 1...... but then will mode 1 erase mode 9 ?.......

(i got 4 kt esc`s all run on mode4 only)

My experience with modes and using both programming cards is that mode 4 and mode 11 reset the ESC. So I don't bother with doing mode 1 first. At least that is what I saw with version 7 firmware. Mode 9 only sets cell type to lipo and LVC to cut-off rather than heli mode slow down.
So I do mode 4 (or mode 11) followed by mode 9. But I don't bother with mode 11 since all my packs are the same age.

programming beyond mode 4 is easy. heres two options

1) mode 1 mode 4 mode 9....
2) mode 1 mode 11 mode 9....

follow either sequence.

you cant program 4 and 11 at the same time, the esc will use whichever you programmed first.

To change that, just start over with mode 1 then program in the other modes you want.

---

as for mode 9 being a quick cut off, you'd have to auto or land real fast if you go under voltage with or without mode 9...I'd waste the extra 10 seconds of my life it takes to program it if you got a later version...and do it with or without the programming card (I dont use a card)

Not knocking mode 11, it is consistent, but its not a myth that everything else in a helicopter is inconsistent

Packs can have different c ratings, age, cycles, etc. A pack with high internal resistance will not run at the same rpm. A difference in rpm can mean other things too, so I use mode 4 to catch those problems.
