I was just looking for some advice on installing the magnets in the fan. The manual says to use 30 min epoxy. I was thinking of placing a small amount in the hole and then placing the magnet in and the using alcohol to clean up what ever squeezes out. I want to keep the fan balanced. Does that sound about right?

Main thing to watch for is that you get opposite poles facing up (put the mags so they stick together then felt pen the outside surfaces) WHen you install make sure that either the same face (ie marked or non marked is facing up)

Other prob is if there is no hole in the base of the mag hole the magnet can compress air like a syringe plunger then get lifted out by the compressed air while the epoxy is setting - I like to drill a 1mm hole in the base of the mag hole for this reason.

30min epoxy is fine - don't use a lot then just wipe over the top with something appropriate to level it down. No need for alcohol - not on the mags anyway !

JB weld is a no, no. The metal in the JB weld can intefere with the magnets. Not sure about other governor type products out there, but is is very explicit in the Futaba instructions for both the GV-1 and GY701.

From the GY701 Manual:
Embed the magnet in this hole in the direction
in which an output is obtained. Use
epoxy adhesive that cures in 30 minutes or
longer. Do not use epoxies that contain metal
such as JB Weld.

From the GV-1 Manual:
Use epoxy adhesive that cures in 30 minutes or longer.
Do not use epoxies that contain metal such as JB Weld.

Yea, about that....been using that stuff for years. I know what they say but more years experience than I care to admit says otherwise.

I hear you. Either way, properly installed I have ever only heard of one instance where someone threw a magnet and we never could confirm exactly how it happened. But, it is important to get it securely mounted, the hole on the backside of the fan is the best idea, BTW, the fans on the MA Fury 55 have the magnet hole already in them with the relief hole.
