Just wanted to post my problem with my DX8.

So far my only problem is with the vibration just didn't work.

Called Horizon Hobby talked to a technician and went through a few things and was told send it in. He sent me a shipping label and it was on it's way this morning. While reading many things that are bad about this radio on the forums I came across a post by John Adams and realized he was a Spectrum rep so I sent him a PM. Wow got a phone call from him within minutes. Wow great service, Talked to him about some of the problems that are reported here on RR. Did many of you know some of the posts are from people that are reps from other radio makers? Not saying they are not telling the truth just saying beware from rival manufactures.

John told me about the vibration problem from Europe that showed a video of a helicopter going nuts when it vibrated true story yup john said they received the radio back and it had a bad motor vibrator fixed it and that was the only problem of this sort.

John also told me that only a hand full of DX8s have been sent back for problems. Mine included.

At this point I will believe John and trust him and Spectrum.

Time will tell Just remember much can be said about nothing time will indeed tell.

I will repost when I get the DX8 back and how they took care of me and made me a happy camper again.

So if the vibration motor goes bad it has the possibility to affect TX output? That is a scary thought. I'm fairly certain the vibratory motors are brushed which means they have a finite lifespan. Does that means after a couple of years if the brushes wear out or the motor develops some other kind of fault there is the potential for unintended RF output resulting in a crash?

I would much prefer to have heard there was a "single unit" quality issue with that particular TX such a a bad solder or partially crimped interconnect wire that was affected by the added vibrations of the alert. That way the problem would only affect one specific bad TX.

If the message you are relaying from John is 100% accurate that means a bad vibration motor has the potential to affect the actual RF output of *any* DX8. That particular situation is much more worrying because down the road if any DX8 vibration motor goes bad it has the possibility to send bad/unintended RF output to your model.

Hopefully John sees this and chimes in. If a bad vibration motor really has the potential to affect the TX RF output of an otherwise 100% operational DX8 then I may just disable my vibratory alerts. They're very nice but the chance of a failed motor crashing a model (however slim it might be) isn't a very comforting possibility.

I'm hoping I'm reading into this too deeply or some information was "lost in translation" between John's conversation with you and your post here.

I still really like my DX8 and knew there would be some risk of being one of the early adopters. At least information and notifications from both other users and the manufacturer has been very prompt.

DX8

I also recieved call from John Adams and we discussed the problems I was having. I'm confident in flying with my DX8 after our discussion. I have many flights today on the 450 with no problems. My 700 le is next. Thanks John A. and HH for your concerns.

John is far more than a Spektrum rep. He is the engineering manager at Horizon. And a very well respected modeler. I have know John for years (I flew for JR many years ago) and he is top notch.

Based on the above posts, it seems like John should be contacting the " hand full of owners who have returned radios" and reassuring them that their problems will be quickly corrected and all will be well. My radio is back at HH and I am not so sure I want it back. I am not a rep or sponsored pilot, just someone who bought a DX8 expecting improved safety and reliability while flying my helis. .

This was my first experience with HH service and I was surprised and impressed. Spoke to John as a result of my post and feel confident they are on top of the few issues they have seen. I now have my radio back and am comfortable flying with it and enjoying the benefits it offers.
