Has anyone tried one of the new Sony batteries? It is 7,4 volts and 2300Mha.

Sorry. It is not a Sony.

But for 10 Bucks would it matter? I have had my 3 Sony batteries for almost 3 years and they are not holding a charge like they use too.

best radio in the world with the worst battery in the world. i HATE my 14mz battery life.

i run a wire out to a 3300mah lipo when i'm setting up now-nonsense really but that is what i'm forced to do.

i use a pair of fromeco 2600 packs and chop/change when required (often)

cheers

I have three batteries. Never seems to be an issue for me. Swapping packs takes seconds and three gets me through a day with time to spare. During normal flying I get about 3 hours on a pack before it hit 30% or less.

When setting up and using the screen and backlight a lot it goes faster. Also if you play music files it goes faster.

It would be nice if there was a longer lasting battery however.

Maybe the new 16 channel with built in Internet connectivity and WiFi will have a bigger pack.

I thought Sony does make a 2s2p version of the NP-F570, but I don't recall the model number. You just can't close the back door on the 14MZ with the pack installed.

I have three NP-F570 packs, but rarely ever use more than one while at the field. I need to fly more.

I think Tony replaces the cells in one of this Sony/Futaba packs with Fromeco cells for a small capacity increase, 2200mAh versus 2600mAh.

They do have a larger pack, in fact they have one that is 2S3P, but you need to take the door off for either one to fit.

I just buy a new one every year and use the older ones as back up. $36 a year is no big deal for peace of mind. I avoid the really cheap clones as well, but that is just me.

BTW, that tiny added 400 mAh capacity only gets you a few more minutes of time. Not really worth the effort in my book.

Agreed, when it came time to replace my batteries I just got three new NP-F570 batteries. I was going to open the old packs to take a peek, but never got around to it.

What's inside you ask ?

That's a clock crystal and micro-processor, Atmel something. The other side is full of passive parts also.

There is a cell center tap.

These batteries are internally balanced!

You broke open a 14MZ batt and that's what's in there???
That wouldn't be in a Fromeco batt or other would it?

No, Fromeco packs do not contain any balancing circuitry. Some may have when they were using the Emoli cells a while back, but those didn't last long.

Didn't Fromeco used to sell a pack specificaly for the 14Mz? Or maybe a device that allowed the use of a standard Fromeco pack?

The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Fromeco used to sell an adapter board that allowed you to use one of their 2600 relion packs in your 14MZ. They discontinued it, probably because nobody bought it.

Just buy the Sony batteries, they are cheap and work awesome. The Fromeco solution was 3 times as expensive.

the fromeco carrier board put stresses on the contact pins of the transmitter. is come cases the pins will be stressed in an akward position over time from repetitive use and get loose on the contact surface of the carrier board and result in total power loss to the transmitter durring use. this is bad news if it happen during flight.

this carrier board is a faulty in design. perhaps, this is why they discontinue it.

if it were to have a contact hole like the original battery does, then that will be different.

I don't recall the Fromeco solution being any more expensive than a genuine Sony pack, but I never liked the way it attached to the pins on the 14MZ. Seems they could have used the same female sockets that are on the packs themselves, but I don't know why they never did that.

This is the inside of a Sony NP-F570. Not the Futaba original.

I'm still using my original Futaba and don't know what is inside. I charge these with a Bantam on LiIo setting. You can get two cables out of one of these and charge in the TX.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXPHL6&P=V

Some of you guys with the $10 aftermarket packs should look inside !

What he said ^ about Fromeco boards.

If I got the cord, I'd like to be able to charge with my 3010B or PL8. How would I adapt them? Anyone ever used something other than a CR-2500 charger with the cord?

Thanks
