Makes wallet thin.

Add another $8 for the titanium button head cap screws.

I thought the D3 has its own metal tail unit. So, it just shares the same unit with Freya?

The D3 just uses the Freya Ex metal tail unit. Haven't weighed it against the plastic tail unit, but looks like it would be easier to change bearings and the tail shaft with the Ex unit as you can just unbolt the two site plates. It's a nice looking unit, but can't really see to much functional advantage over the stock D3 plastic unit. I've got the plastic stock unit on one of my D3's and the metal case on the other.

One pretty good upgrade in my opinion, is the Metal Freya Ex radius stay. The plastic one wears a little over time (they are cheap anyway), where as the Freya Ex one tends not to wear and there is next to no slop at all with the swash stay pin and radius stay. It is the same upgrade radius stay as the SDX.

You don't really need any of these upgrades however, but just nice to haves.

You have to remember that the Turbulence D3's developmental platform is the Freya EVO 90. Dominik's 2007 chapmion model was an EVO 90 with SWM conversion, and the prototype SSZ-IV head assembly. If you look at the family tree of the Freya, Freya Eagle, and D3 they all share the same; if not all the components.

I'm not sure you will want the horizontal fin support. The reason being that it is not angled like the plastic one is. Also, you would have to reattach your boom support end fittings as the screw goes into the band horizonatally rather than vertically through the horizontal fin mounting bolts.

Yes, it is very pretty in blue. There is also another type that is black; The E3 Tail Boom Brace Band, 0414-328. It has the same vertical attach as the standard plastic band; but, it has no angle to meet the upward sweep of the boom support. That's why I haven't used mine.

I guess I just like the functionality of the stock unit!

Doesn't the metal one bolt the stays to the side while the plastic one bolts to the bottom at a angle?

Correct.

With the ali boom clamp, the ends of your boom support are in the same plane, not at 90D angles like they are when the plastic tail clamps is used.
