It's quite easy to program....Also try to pick up a programmer for your computer too, it makes things very easy...You will love the esc. I recently switched over to one in my Rave450, and it made a huge difference. The governor is awesome, and it has onboard telemtry so you can download amp draw, headspeed, temps, etc....Either one will work. I have the lite and I am actually selling a NIP regular one. The difference in weight is not much....

Yes you will need to get the Castle Link PC interface in order to program it for a helicopter. The default mode is for airplanes. You to the castle creations download page to get the latest PC and ESC software. The one download contains everything for all Castle Creation products. http://www.castlecreations.com/downloads.html

Get the standard version with the seat sink. The other version is mainly for sailplanes with narrow fuselages.

It has a built in 5 amp UBEC that’s more than adequate to run everything on a 450. I have one on my 500 for over a year and it’s great.

if i have to reprogram esc the heli sits on computer w/ PHX Link instead of removing esc from frame?

reading about the PHX there is a warning about built-in BEC's, so i can still use an external one?

thank you

i just want to make the correct purchase. i confess i am somewhat electronically challenged.

i was looking at a hobbywing but with the programming card you need a seperate battery and if you program it with TX the directions are quite overwhelming. and the infrared programming card with the scorpion i wonder about.

Yes, both will fit and work just fine. The regular will run a little cooler and is good for up to 8s should you decide to put it in a 500 and run 8s later like I did. Yes you will use a mini USB to connect to the programmer and then to the esc which is still in the heli. You don't need an extra battery. When you get the esc, it comes with a discount coupon to get a programmer for free or a field programmer for $10. I'd go with the field programmer as it will do the same as the regular one and you can also do some programming wihout a computer.

so i bought one. gonna try to program it tomorrow from my computer with the downloaded software. Vista is a little more time consuming but i got it. i bought the link instead of the program card.

i did call CC and they said they would be more than happy to walk me through the programming.

if you are at the field why not bring laptop and still use link instead of program card?

It's nice to have your laptop at the field.. you can tweak those settings right there..

look in my gallery.. I have some screen captures of different Ice setups.

call me a whimp............i called CC and in ten minutes i have it programmed. i mentioned external BEC and tech. support told me to don't bother. i did not program it for govenor mode because of my skill level.

no more listening for beeps and using throttle stick to set up ESC. and i like the fact that you can print out a copy of your settings for refernece.

good decision on my part.
