Anyone here with a dad who's heart capacity is less than 30% due to an untreatable heart attack? (He has lost most of blood flow to left lower chamber, and is too weak to go thru bypass)

Any chance of survival?

quality of life?

I'm assuming there was heart damage due to the attack? My father had a quad bypass almost 15 years ago. He had 100% blockage in one artery, 90% in another, 30% in another and they weren't sure on the last one. They bypassed them all.

He's moving right along 15 years later. Now his knee and hip are giving out.

Hope everything goes alright with your dad.

is it due to clotting, holes, collapse or what? do they know?

my grandpa died when he was in his mid 40's because of a collapsed artery.

my mom had a heart attack when she was 43 because of the same thing. they were able to put in two stents (spelling?) to support the collapsed area and she has been fine since.

hoping that things will make a turn for the better for you and your father.

Who cares... its just money...

Thanks trev,

Its a big blockage on a main artery. Unfortunately it came at the same time as a fall and some bleeding in the brain. They thickened the blood to deal with the bleeding, but it took too long.

Still alive but the docs are really not wanting to mess with it anymore, and they are right, it is one of those complicated end of life issues where a lot of things are going very wrong at the same time. its time, very obvious, but i was trying to avoid making the call.

Last night he was halucinating that he and i were on a buss near home. but the buss doors were locked. kept saying " Joe, get, me, off, this, buss!!! " (very advanced stage parkinsons)

Finally went to the nurse counter last night to ask about Hospice.

He had a great life teaching at the university, music, antique collecting, lots of family and friends around him all the time... managed to have fun till only a couple weeks ago.

Raising a mug to good dads everywhere.
