Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a second hand 450 pro, running an align 430sp motor with 5065mg servos on cyclic and ds520 on tail. Stock speed control, stock gp750 gyro, 3d carbon blades. Head speed seems good and high when on the ground but once you try to take it up and fly around it seems like the motor bogs a lot. Was that a normal problem with the 430 motor. Another question, if I did get a 450M motor would this speed control be able to handle it or are the new rex 450's coming with a bigger speed control than the older 450 pros. As far as flying, it flys very well. I put the align heavy paddles on it just to be safe till I got used to it but after one flight I feel like it needs more roll. Would the heavy paddles contribute to the bogging of the motor much or is it just weak. Thanks for the help

One of the problems I can see is your 430sp motor is not as strong as the stock 450M motor, even if the 430sp has a Kv rating 200rpm higher. The 450M is about 10% stronger.

If I switch to the 450m will the stock speed control be able to handle it or should I just get a scorpion

If you have the BL 35X 35A ESC the 450M will work with it, that's the motor that came with the kit. Myself, I would go with the HK2221-8 but I think you should use a CC. ICE 50A ESC with it.

Before you switch motors, set your timing in your ESC to high. Also what pinion are you running? Its kind hard to belive you are able to bogue that motor. FBL that motor is insane. I had to but the curve down to 87 flat. You might have other problems in your heli. Do you have a space between your main gear and the pinion (use paper to get the right thickens). Make sure your main gear is not warped.

I will try to reprogram the speed control tomorrow and make sure the gear mesh is good. I'm pretty sure it is because I can hand spin the blades easy and from what I can tell it has good mesh. I also noticed the motor was pretty hot today, but it was 95 degrees outside. Not sure what pinion is in it but I will count them. Thanks for all the help.

One more question, if I do get the scorpion motor will the stock pinion work on it. What pinion are most people running for 3D. Thanks

No the stock pinion will not work, your motor has a 3.50mm. shaft and the Scorpion has a 3.17mm. shaft. With the Scorpion a 13T pinion for 3D.

well I decided to just upgrade the speed control and motor but of course NO ONE has the scorpion 2221-8 in stock. Is the align 450M comparable in power or should I just wait till the scorpions are in stock.

Wait for the Scorpion Motor, At peak power the 450M will only do it for 30sec., The HK-2221-8 will do it continuously.

I have installed the Scorpion 2221-8 with a 13T pinion, stock Align 35A BEC, 100% flat trhottle curve, 40C batteries and 13 degrees of pitch! I can fly only 3.30 minutes but the power is really amazing!
Noticeably more powerfull than Align 450M's friends!

I'm amazed that the ESC is holding up for you.

Well, after seeing some videos and posts of Bert Kammerer running the Scorpion 2221-6 with the stock 35A Align ESC, I decided to use it with my Scorpion 2221-8!
I can't tell you yet about durability, but so far I'm very satisfied with its power!

It must be nice to have the scorpion. I have looked everywhere online and they are out of stock everywhere. So I guess for now I will just have to fly it as is.

well I reset the speed control to high timing and heli seems to have more power. I always want more power so I ordered a 450M motor since there are no scorpion 2221-8 anywhere on earth. Now I want a t600, wanting in this hobby never ends lol
