I am in the middle of converting a pht3 into a copter sx, i have gone into the sub menu to alter the head spead from 1280 rpm to as close to 1400 as possible but the ecu sub menu will only alter the turbine rpm from 88000-94000
is there a way of altering the settings above 94000 to 103000 to gain more head and tail authority as i wish to fit 810 main blades and 120 tail blades.
any feedback will be apreciated

Try this:

Adjusting turbine operating speed
With the GSU plugged in press and hold [select menu] while pressing the [+] key to move through menus until “turbine limits” is displayed. Release both and using the [+] move within turbine limits until max rpm is displayed. Press and hold [change value] and adjust the value using the [+] [-] keys.

Oh **** ! this is going to be expensive?

At 103000 rpm expect to see the belts shread if you load it to much - if you want to run a higher head speed get the gearing changed and keep everything else reliable.

Hi,
I changed my rpm to get a head speed of 1350.

Try this:
Connect up GSU

Press and hold "manual" and power up
To enter system code: press "ignition, limits, limits, min/max"

system in now unlocked.

Hold "select menu" and press "+,+" to basic menu, release buttons

Press: "+,+" until max limit RPM 94000 is displayed

Press and hold "change value" and "+,+ until max RPM required is displayed.

Turn off system.

User limits changed by my previous post.

Philb,

The problem with the turbine running at full speed to get a high head speed is the blade grips etc will possibly fail? On my powercat which uses Vario grips / head there is a warning given by Vario that the head may fail if the recommended head speed is exceeded?

You could try upgrading the head?

In the case of the PHT3-1300, the normal running rpm of the turbine is 94000 with a gear reduction of 73.25:1 - thus a nominal head speed of 1283 is reached.
There is normally a safe rpm limit pre set in the ECU to allow for possible overrun, in this case 98000, so the head speed could reach 1337 in this situation.
If you were to run it at 103000, you would be seeing a head speed of 1406 which is what was being looked for, but now you have no safe overrun zone.

It has been found in the past, that when trying to run at 103000 with heavy models and loading, the first thing to go are the belts.
If you stick within the designed limits, you should not encounter this problem.

If you contact Bob Wilcox @ JetCat USA - I think you will find that he can offer new gearing to allow 1400 head speeds and keep within safe rpm limits.

Hi Richard
thanks for the reply, i have got the airstar all metal 12mm head fitted so that will hold a 1400 head speed it is good to know that you can get into the menu i will alter the head to 1350 for the time but also modtron i will get in touch with jetcat usa to find out more about the gear upgrade, i have been in touch with jecat germany via Aly at alls hobbies and roman states there is no upgrade on the gear system but would tell me how to get a head speed of 1350 on the ecu but another opinion from jetcat usa will not be a bad thing.
still waiting for the belt drive system from airstar before i can run it up for the first time so will not be doing any mods untill i see how it fly,s
Thanks very much for all the help and advise

Hi Phil,

No problem, I remembered after the 1st reply that I was sent a instruction sheet by Vario Eastern Helicopters on how to change the limits, unfortunatly I can't find the electronic copy or I would have sent you it.
