1) No such thing as "mini Yorkies", or "Teacup Yorkies", and the like. It's a ploy by less-than-scrupulous breeders to make you think you're getting that special puppy. Yorkie breed standard is 4-7 pounds. My fiance has a 5-pound Yorkie. Yorkie pups are quite small, but one you bought as a "mini" could well grow up to be a 9-12 pound adult.

2) To find a reputable Yorkie breeder, contact the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. They have a list of reputable breeders:

http://www.ytca.org/

We got our Yorkie from one of the breeders on the list.

Why not try a yorkie rescue in your area?

Other than a pit I would have to agree with that!

I have one yorkie, one yorkie mix, and a pit. I will never get another yorkie. Don't get me wrong, I love them all to death but yorkies are a pain in the neck.

The title of the post made me think of a movie I once saw in the back of a barn when I was young.

Other than a pit
I'm on a crusade here. My wife and I recently adopted a "pit" from her brother who could no longer have her. She's the most gentle dog I've ever see. My 3 yo jumps all over her and she just licks him. I'm on a crusade to have people stop referring to them as pit bulls. That carries too may negative connotations. When anyone asks me what kind of dog she is I tell em that she's an American Staffordshire Terrier

My Wife's Sister has a pit. His name is Tank. I love that dog. He is one of those lovable dogs that will lay on you on the couch and beg for affection.

+1 on the AmStaff....I've known but a few, but all were very loveable dogs....I'm sure some are by nature mean, but as long as barbarians breed them for fighting, we all suffer....One guess how I feel about michael vick....

Seems like about every 15 yrs they have to single out a breed of dog. German Shepherds, Doberman Pinscher, Rottweiler, and the latest big threat to the American way the Pit Bull. I remember a time when the dog breed that had the highest bites was the Cocker Spaniel.

bbaxter put it the best...

good luck on the hunt
