I have a Hawk Pro with an OS37 engine. I had been having problems with the engine going lean as the fuel tank emptied. Installing the uniflow setup solved this problem and the engine runs great for the entire fuel tank. However, I now have a lot of trouble starting the engine. Does anyone know if there is a special technique for starting the engine with a uniflow setup?

Are you using muffler pressure with your uniflow set-up?

Yes, with the Century CN3039 muffler. When it does start it runs great. Before changing to the uniflow I would prime at 1/2 throttle for 15 seconds. It would then start immediately.

I will tell you a Lean Idle will make an Engine start hard, have you tried Richening-Up the Idle Screw ??

personally I think priming an Engine for 15 seconds is to long, if the Idle Screw is set correctly it should start rather well,,

if you find the Idle IS set correctly and the Problem is just a Priming thing, then it is very easy to Prime your Engine by simply Squeezing the Muffler's Pressure Line and Squeezing the Fuel Tank at the same time..

Yup, the problem was overpriming. It didn't seem to be a problem with the old setup but now it hardly takes any prime at all - just a squeeze as you suggested. Thanks.
