I reversed it, it just doesn't go back to neutral in both modes.
Read this closely: If the gyro is in heading hold, it's *NOT* supposed to go back to neutral when you release the stick! That only happens when in rate mode!

Hmm how do I switch it to rate mode? On the transmitter I don't dare do it... The idle up and gyro switch are stuck together... once I switch it my heli is going to go crazy...

So un-stick them together for the purposes of testing.

If it can't hover, it ain't worth flying.

You should be using two different gain settings for your gyro gain. 49 to 0 it is in normal (Rate) mode, 50 to 100 it is in heading hold mode.

Hi there, try this:

take the gyro out of the loop, ie remove its connections
connect tail control servo direct to the relevant RX channel
NOW check that you push rudder LEFT that tail blade TRAILING edges go LEFT...and go right they should point right. Be careful of how far you push as the servo end point might be set to max travel which the GY401 likes..not sure of the 401 clone though.

Once satisfied its all as it should THEN plug the gyro back in to the system...swing the nose LEFT and watch the trailing edges of those tail blades carefully they should go RIGHT so as to correct.

I use the trailing edges as a reference as its easier to see the movement.

I would fit a training base like a hoop when doing your test flights, sorry to teach you to suck eggs but its suprising that a lot o accidents can be prevented by doing this.

I had a work mate of mine adamantly tell me that his gyro was set up correct...he was SURE...good job the hoop was fitted...darn heli (trex700 nitro) did a few piros in the blink of an eye.

Interesting, I dont knock the clones of various products but getting a good gyro is key. I dont care if its a basic make of gyro as long as it holds the tail ok.

I had a crash recently, smashing (amongst other things) a new set of blades...nice expensive ones too

I reckon the gyro was at fault, its a GY401 but its been through dsome crashes plus got covered in dirt as well...so it cant be trusted now. Got a new one on the way.

Well in Fung's case I don't think the gyro is at fault. If you read all the posts sounds to me like he does not know how to properly set one up. There is a lot of good info in all the post's and anyone should be able to set one up. You have to understand your radio and how they gyro works. Just my 2 pennies though.

Carpe Diem!!!

Hit the nail on the head. A little bit of reading and research goes a long way.

Well I dunno, but looking at his signature thing at the bottom of his posts and he has a little fleet of helis, so must have some idea of gyro setups? I dunno.

Certainly going through the basics of setup SHOULD give a better picture of the health of the Gyro.

Funny you know, a while back I was setting up my first 401...and couldnt find the 'A' setting for heading lock...settled for Rate mode in both modes...the radio manual didnt state anything that clearly...and the gyro instructions, while stating the 'A' value etc certainly didnt state how to get to that setting....after a year of flying that heli I was messing with the radio settings and kept dialing the gains...and VOILA! got the 'A 60%' or whatever it was...and got my heading lock...so go figure.

I dont know the exact facts of this guys gyro case, but we do live and learn. As long as we are happy to share that knowledge..and are not to 'high and mighty' to learn too...thats the ethos we should aspire to.

I just love Fung Kyle threads!!!
Did your gyro come with instructions? How is it should be mounted? Basic setup, suggested gain starting points etc...Read first, it will answer a lot of questions. Anyway sounds like gyro is reversed. When you rapidly push the tail to the right which direction does the slider bar go? If it corrects too quickly then angle the top blade forward and you can see it move to right or left. If you can't see it move put your finger on it and you will be able to feel it. Let us know and we'll be able to help you further.

Not if you still have the gyro reversed and/or don't know how to set one up. When you do get the 611 going in the right direction it blows the doors off a 401 particularly in backwards flight. Still learning you may not notice much difference though.

High Voltage just works better

Yup. A pretty decent size fleet and been a member on here for 88 days and almost has 500 posts. WOW. He will be a RRPROFESSOR in no time and still can't properly setup a gyro.

Carpe Diem!!!
