When a mfg rates a motor for a specific nbr of cells, in general, how tightly do we need to adhere to this?

For example, the Innov8tive Scorpion motor application guide recommends an HK3026-1210 for the Trex 500 on 8S. When I look at the specs for the HK3026-1210 on the Scorpion site it lists the max lipo cells at 6S.

I know we must consider torque characteristics and pinions, etc, but is there a general rule of thumb for specs vs. nbr of cells?

Look at the max motor RPM and the KV/voltage.

Or just look at what others run.

What look goods on paper does quite often not translate into good results in flight
