Alright as has been said already, this was a great event and its obvious that it was no acccident. Joe, carrie, and everyone involved worked hard to make this event into what it was. That being said, I just want to say that I was a bit disappointed about the whole " sponsored pilot for the weekend" contest. First of all, I was really happy to hear that several friends of mine nominated me as they know how much I spend on crash parts due to flying a bunch. When I went to registration there was nothing in place set up for the contest winners. I was told to come back later. I came back later for blades that I was supposed to get as well as crash parts after a minor mishap but was told that they were not there yet . I'm not going to get into details but long story short, I asked numerous times for the stuff that I was promised as a contest winner and felt like I was bothering those involved. I ended up buying my crash parts from one of the vendors but did get the blades mid morning sat. I guess what I'm saying is that it would have been nice to have already had everything there when we signed up ( 2 gallons of cool power, g 5 blades, heli invasion shirt, hat, parts, free pass into the event ) . I did get a shirt, blades, and a gallon of fuel so thanks to all of the sponsors that helped out. Joe I did not understand that you needed my blade and shirt size prior to the event and I was not explained to about the package being lost in the mail and had I been then we would not be talking about this. Thanks again for a great event and thanks to all the sponsors.

I agree Rob. Thank you for that gallon of Cool Power. It would have been better if you got both gallons

Seriously though, that could have been handled better. I'm sure they were just too darn busy to keep up with it all.

Rob...

I'm not sure if you realize this, but there were a bunch of issues beyond our control which contributed to the complexity of the event sponsorship problem.

1. I emailed you SEVERAL times, both congratulating you on winning the prize AND also asking you what size shirt and blades you wanted. To which I received NO response. So obviously we couldnt have had things ready for you when you arrived without that.

2. Our prize packages did not arrive as planned either. We had no choice but to wait until these packages arrived to give the stuff away. That is why we gave things away as we could.

3. Your second bottle of fuel was up at the registration booth, as I mentioned you just needed to come back and get it.

Could this have been handled better? Sure. However, sometimes things are beyond our control (like packages showing up) and we cant always execute them as we'd like. All we can ask is that people work with us to deal with these issues.

Rob, you may not realize that events like this require TONS of work to put on. And during the event, its very hard to keep everything running smoothly. So yes things do fall through the cracks, but we try extremely hard to keep those items to a minimum.

If you still have an issue, I ask that you contact me privately and I will be sure to make things right.

Hey Joe,

Have any more of the t-shirts available? My wife was sure to get herself one and thought I received one with my registration. When she returned later, there were none remaining in my size, XL.

Again, one hell of a time and looking forward to next year!

Thanks,

Jason

I know that the Heliwholesaler box of stuff got screwed up in shipment and ended up being locked in a container til Monday. Joe had to scramble to get the items that were promised for the raffle as well as the other things Jeff had sent down. I think the contest was a pretty original idea that I've never seen done, and as with any first, some kinks might need addressing.

Event Recap

2010 Heli-Invasion: Not the Biggest, Only the Best!!!

Well here I sit, one week after the conclusion of the 2010 Heli-Invasion. Finally, my voice has just about come back, my sunburn has faded and I am finally caught up on sleep, but the memories, excitement and the joy of running an event the magnitude of the 2010 Heli-Invasion lives on!!

As an event organizer, I can honestly say that there is no more incredible feeling than looking out over a sea of 200 plus spectators, registered pilots, vendors and countless sponsors and thinking "How cool is this?!?" It's just a shame it all goes by so quickly.

I have spoken to numerous people and everyone, the pros, the registered pilots, the spectators all felt the 2010 Invasion was just over the top. Never before at the Invasion have we had people flying until not midnight, not 1 am, but 2 am on BOTH FRIDAY & SATURDAY night. Between the friendships, the good times and camaraderie, the Heli-Invasion is truly one of the best events around.

First off, I need thank EVERYONE that attended the event, this year easily broke last years record for registered pilots, with a whopping 168 registered pilots.

And with an event this big, you can bet there is a great team behind the Heli-Invasion that makes it all possible. I personally want to thank, in no particular order, my wife Carrie, for putting up with me not only at the event, but in the weeks and months preceding the event; also Clay and Daniel, for their tireless work in both the prep and running of the event; Nate Jr & Drew they helped keep the madness to a minimum; Bill Jackson & Erin.... true friends that give everything they can; and finally, thanks to Eric B. without him, there would have been no lighted sign to show the way nor lights to fly by!!

I also need to thank Fredericksburg RC Club for the use of their field for the weekend, and most importantly, thanks to land owner Keith Campbell for letting it all happen.

Finally, I have to extend a HUGE thanks to all of our sponsors. The sponsors are instrumental in helping to keep the excitement going with a raffle that is second to none. Thanks to:
  • HeliWholesaler
  • Hobby Hangar
  • Hobby Hut
  • RC Heliworks
  • ExperienceRC
  • Curtis Youngblood Enterprises
  • Scott Gray Products
  • EDGE Rotorblades
  • u-neak DESIGNS
  • Outrage
  • Castle
  • Perfect Regulators
  • Cool Power Fuels
  • HeliProz
A special thanks to our pros that made it too.... Marcus, Bert, Bobby, Nick, Jared, Colin, Justin, Kyle and Alan. You guys put on one hell of a show!!

I can honestly say that this event made me very proud, in just three short years the Heli-Invasion has gone from a regional fun-fly with 80 pilots to just about 170 pilots... thats double in size for those of you that like to count!! And it's the fans, spectators and pilots that make me want to do it all again next year.

Finally, I want to thank everyone for all the photos, videos and posts on the various threads around. The buzz you all create is quite tangible. And as a special thanks, I have chosen a few photos of the event as a special recap.... and I have some special prizes for the these photographers.
