Hi guys just took the Fury 55 out today for the first flight and started the OS 55 up only to have the blades engage I had to keep my hand on the head so it would stop spinning. My first thought was that the new clutch liner needed to wear in a bit but now Im thinking something is wrong .. Any Ideas ?

I dont have a 55 yet ( coming soon!!!) but i would say it sounds like your clutch liner may have a high spot that needs addressed . probably near the joint. If it like other MinAir birds check to see that you have 3-5 thous. clearance between liner and clutch. clear any high spots or it may wear in with some time if it is minor. Tom

Godspeed, my clutch was a little sticky in the begining. Now smooth as glass and idles with no blade movement.

I had the same exact problem at the beginning and heres what it was. Theres nothing wrong with the clutch as it is one of the best clutches on any fifty size out there. The clutch and fan is held down by the engine nut one the crankshaft of the motor. there are also two small bolts below that are supposed to tighten the fan onto the crank and these two bolts arent holding anything nomatter how tight you crank them in. What holds the fan and clutch is primarily the nut. The book says only to snug that nut as if you over tighten it will cause a fan wobble. Dont listen to that. Your fan and clutch slid loose and is going up to hit the top of the clutch bell and that is your problem. It will get worse and slide up more until it seizes. You have to really tighten the nut down so the fan and clutch dont move. And dont forget the red locktight.

actually, do listen to the note in the manual to 'snug' the nut until there is no crank end play. then tighten the bottom bolts, then go back and tighten the nut down plenty.

another good tip is to apply thread lock on the threads at the top of the nut after installation.

Fury 55 Clutch Problems

I have not had a chance to remove the Eng yet I hope to get to it sometime this week should I be able to tell if that was the problem when I get it out?

how does the clutch bell spin now? freely or draggy or notchy ? measure the clutch and the inside of the liner to see what gap you have. it should be 3-5 thous. all around. I see a small score line in the bell just above the liner. Is this a scratch or just the way the pic looks? can you send a pic of the clutch shoe also? Tom

thats exactly how mine is wearing..

i think ya just need to burn the clutch in. my first few runs were tight. i gave the clutch a good work out a couple times by holding the head and giving throttle bumps.

hope this helps

Two people mention threadlock on the nut. Yes to using BLUE (242 or 243) and no to using RED (263 or 266)locktite, imo.

[ "the clutch spins fine but I took another look at it and it looks like the clutch shoe is hitting the top of the bell look at my photo and you will see what Im talking about' ]

as for the scrores in the clutch bell that is a machining process when the new the clutch liner installed it is milled or lathe to the proper spec's for the clutch outer diameter
