What ever happened to the SK720 software upgrade that was promised by the end of last month. Has anyone heard any news?

Art, posted yesterday that it was almost ready. I was hoping to get to play with it this weekend. I guess it will be next weekend.

Here's so Q & A I got from Skookum yesterday ...
>Is there a way to add a ON/OFF switch to the 720 so i don't have to remove canopy inbetween flights like 7100R or Reactor X ?

We may release another version of the power bus in future with a soft switch, but it'll be months at least. I know there is a soft switch gadget that helidirect carries for that.

Re the governor, the next firmware release will include rpm logging, which is the first step towards a governor. Might still be a few months though.
As for the ON/off switch I think i'm going to try Perfect Regualtors Remote Fail-Safe Switch + 2 Channel 5v Regulator @ http://www.perfectregulators.com/in...0&product_id=76
Now i can remotely turn off without removing canopy between flights and have my bus bar 8.4HV and 5.2LV .. What you guys think ?

The two things that I need are better rudder control and Futaba S-Bus support. Tower has S-Bus receivers in stock so that’s doing to be a badly needed upgrade.

the s bus would use fewer wires to the 720 and you would also be able to use 2 gain channels instead of one possibly 3 if they enable them in the 720. ie.cyclic gain, rudder gain, gov gain as of right now with an external receiver you can only use just 1 gain function at a time.

If you go all the way with S-Bus all you need is two connections. S-Bus in and S-Bus out. Futaba makes S-Bus servos and S-Bus modules to drive standard servos. The S-Bus receiver that Tower sells also has standard servo outputs so you can have a mix of both if you like.

hows the s bar let you use more gain channels? i thought it so you can use HV and LV ,it is powered by the battery you tie to it ,then power LV with bec for tail, throttle, gov, switchglo etc. The 720 controls channels.

With a standard receiver you have to share a gain channel between the rudder and cyclic because there are not enough connectors on the SK720. With s-bus you have 14 channels available on the bus.

How many gain setting's do you really need??? I use one and one only and my setup it with the 4 wires to the power bus, it's nice and clean and works great.

Yeah but with the s bus you will only need 1 wire to the receiver instead of 4 not really to big of deal but cleaner. Also you need to consider bail out switch, gov, gps stuff. In future upgrades 1 switch will probably not be enough. The technolgy is there why not use it to its fullest.

I agree skew I'm using a separate Rx and 1 more gain would be nice. I currently have it setup for my normal flight mode, then I have another for auto's (which are sweeeet!) But to use the self leveling I need 1 more.

With future expansions you may need lots of gain/control channels.
1. Rudder
2. Cyclic
3. Bail-out
4. Governor
5. GPS ?

The big advantage of the S-Bus is that Skookum will have lots of options for future expansion without having to add more hardware.

Yesterday on HF Skookum said that the next update was in beta testing but the weather is holding up final testing. Right now most are interested in features like S.Bus interface and governor function.

As for GPS I expect that it’s not going to be anytime soon. I don’t think that they have even designed the hardware yet then they will have to wait for better weather before they can start firmware development.

I’m not really sure what GPS is going to do for the average flyer anyway. Has anyone seen a proposed list of features that GPS will add?

I suppose its an expectation as set Skookum site - and it was one of the reasons for me purchasing the product

Future upgrades will include a GPS accessory for more precise xyz positions in the flight logs, as well as abilities entirely new to the hobby

Just depends on what is meant by future ......

For me it depends on the cost of the GPS hardware. If it’s $50 I will give it a try. If it’s $500 NOT .
