I think that normally most ESC come set up with the standar, just you personalize to your liking but dont mess too much with it. Just keep it standar and change something if you need it

I did not have a good day....

Yesterday I got the new Century 650A+ 800kV motor installed in my Raptor 30v2 conversion. I had about a 3 minute test hover in the front yard and all seemed great. Today I went to the club flying field for some real testing since my yard is about the size of a driveway.

And that's were the trouble happened....

I just put her on the ground and then start spooling up for the first flight. Before the rotor even got up to speed there was an awful noise. Immediately I throttled off expecting a shredded tail belt or similar.

What I found was one of the magnets had a chunk missing!
I discovered I could use my finger nail and pull the magnet off the bell and pull it out of the fingers in the base of the bell. Only held in with the magnetism. I checked the other magnets and found a could pull a second magnet off the bell with only my finger nail and could pull it clear out of the base fingers as well.

No glue at all? If anything a VERY slight line off possibly CA glue.
Every motor I have had in the past had good heavy epoxy like glue holding the magnets in. Did I just get a bad motor? I bought it brand new from Heliproz South on Thursday. Do you think the small grind I did near the top of the shaft for the prop adapter set screw will void the warranty?

Any help would be appreciated. See pics for details.

Hello,

This is the picture with the hub modified.... I cut it off at the lenght I need to be able to use the same holes I made in my frame. I couldn't cut it less or I wouldn't have reach the plastic of the frame.

I think I either have to keep make a thread to screw further the hub or I do not know what to do! hehe
Unfortunately my tap and die set doesn't have that size...

Hi Luis,
just from looking at the pic it looks to me like you still cut off to much. I don't think it would have changed your postion on the frames.

that being said, it is a lot better than what it was so I would run it that way for now. I think that at least you will have less chance of any breakage from the shaft being unsupported as what is in the open is the thick part of the shaft.

can you post pics once you have installed it as it is now so we can look at it and get a better idea of how it sits in the frames?

Roy made the drive down to ft rucker today and we got his raptor on its first flight in the fuse. it sounded as great as it looked and even in the wind, was very smooth.

Thanks again Emile for checking out my helis and getting the rust and dust out of them

Yes, the 500 was actually very smooth and even the tail fin did not shake which I really did not expect.

It hovered nicely but I am in some real need of flying time due to work. I will get a few more flights on it then pull the mechanics back out again and put the five bladed head on it and test fly it before it goes back into the fuselage for the last time, then finish off the detailing.

I will get the flight video posted as soon as I get back from my business trip to Puerto Rico.

What C rating batteries are you guys using on the 6 cells? And what kind of flight time could I expect with a 5000 mah pack on the 800kv century motor in a fuse, scale flying of course.

I don't always fly helis, but when I do I prefer to fly scale.

raptor converted to electric

Well, I decided to have one more test of my Raptor titan 50 converted to electric in the MD500 fuselage. It flew for about four minutes and the engine and ESC were cool to the touch.
Now I will pull the mechanics out again and install the five bladed head system, test fly in pod and boom then back into the fuselage for the last time (I hope).

I got my wife Angie to film this test flight for me and she was so sweet about it all but was not happy with all the gnats biting at us

BTW, the heli is not as close as it seems to the fence
BUT, my neighbor decided to start cutting grass just was we started so there is some background noise... sorry.

I use 6s-5000mah 25C with my 1100kv motor and I get only 4.5mins at 85% throttle curve. How do you guys manage to get up to 8mins?
I have tried to see the longest I can fly and it has gone up to 5.5mins before it starts loosing power and coming down. How do you do to get 8mins????? I just to scale flying.....

I was using woodies so I was keeping it at 85% linear throttle curve. Now I'll but CF blades and I think I'll make a 90-87.5-85-87.5-90 curve.... what do you guys think???? I have no clue about my RPM yet. I am just guessing I am below 2000rpm.

After about 40 flights in my raptor 30, I am installing it finally into the fuselage... it should be ready to fly soon

Thanks guys again for this thread and those who contributed and made possible my conversion that has worked pretty good so far....

You could also use more voltage(series) and get the same 8 min.

I am pretty bad with electronics. I didn'T understand both points, hehe....
I thought that connecting 2x 3s 5000mah in paralel would be the same than 1 x 6s 5000mah??? but it seems it is not????
Also, I don't understand what you meant by using more voltage 'series'....

thanks!

Instead of using a 6S setup in parallel with a higher kV motor like some have on here, you could use a 10S or 12S (two 5S or 6S in series) with a lower kV motor.

If you skip me I can't play!
