Without knowing what rx you have, here's the 'ugly' way of figuring it out:

plug in each servo one at a time. Plug the throttle servo in and move the left stick up/down and see if the throttle moves. If it doesn't, move it to the next slot and try again. If it does, try the next servo and move the appropriate stick in appropriate direction then continue until they all move correctly.

this site was a god send when i first was learning to fly on my Raptor 30 V1, it had all the info you would ever need on the raptor..
use the HOW TO drop down menus on the left hand side of the sight.

I would also recommend, as you said you were new to hellies, i am unsure from your post if you are new to RC aircraft in general, try and find a local club where you can get help and advice, are you in WALES UK or US?
Good luck and welcome to a great hobby

Matt

It's not the RX (receiver) that determines what function is on what channel number,
. . . . it's the TX (transmitter) and it needs to be Heli capable.

Find the manual for the TX for your answers.

If not available start with the folloowing;

Check the TX to see which stick function does NOT have a spring return to center. That will be the throttle. If the right stick, it's Mode-1, it the left stick, it's Mode-2 (the more popular)

Hook up your system and connect only one servo.
Exercise all the controls on the TX and see which one causes the servo to move and note it. Move the servo to another RX position and do it again for all the other positions on the RX.

You will use Rudder, Elevator, Aileron and Throttle on the 4 stick movement functions.

Now it's necessary to make sure the TX is in Heli mode.

Collective will go on one of the other channels and operation is specific to the TX type.

Gyro will go on one of the other channels and operation is specific to the TX type.
