Hi all,

I am flying my rapyy quite niceky now n doin some sport flying. Just started to accumulate money for the next one... Which one it should be a 50 or a 90 size ???

I have three brands here Trex , Raptor n Sceadu ...

A old time dealer here suggests Sceadu SDX 50 as the next step...Personally, if i go for a 50 size i would convert my rappy 30 into a 50 ..Is that the right decision???

regards

It is allways nice to have a second heli Butif you feel it is time to move up to a bigger and better heli. Two options, buy a new heli, or turn yours into a fifty. From my experience I would turn the Rappy into a fifty. Cost is less. As fast and fun as a 90 is, you would find a good 55 in a Rappy is pretty darn good, and will give you a lot of flight time before you will want to go for a ninty, and believe me a 90 sucks the juice! But if the cost and ongoing cost to run is not an issue, enjoy a 90.

Myself, of the three, I would go with Hirobo (they make the Sceadu) as well as some of the best 90's out there . . . None of the crap quality issues of Align, good parts availability and very reasonable. (Others are cheaper, but you'll end up buying more parts since they wear out faster . . . ). Myself, never really a Raptor fan, but if that suits you, it's also a choice - they too have a good selection of bigger birds.

Having said that, the Sceadu SDX will make your Rappy look like a tinker toy . . . it really *IS* a huge move up, just not in size . . .

i would not convert the 30, i would spend the money on a 600. a 600 is easy to fix and it is usually only gear boom and blades when you crash. i have had many align helis and they are a good heli.

you aint crashin you aint learnin

If you are having fun with the Raptor 30,just upgrade it to a 50.You will be even happier, have more to spend on fuel. That WILL make you a better pilot and make an even better decision on wether you want to go to a 90 size.90's are super fun, easy to fly but fuel and parts costs make it less attractive for the average Joe.

I did the raptor 50 upgrade, but probably would have done better to just buy the 50 kit, and keep The 30 for a while longer. It is still handy if it still flys, especialy if it is old and ugly. I ended up going back and making an ugly 30 from scrap parts. Reason was i was too nervous to practice backwards or nose-in or upside down, on a nice heli, flying one that is less precious helped a ton.

Rappy 50 is a good choice. Easy to work on. Already familiar with it. the Hirobo is good too flys great, a little harder to work on IMO so i ended up getting rid of mine in favor of just raptors. just a personal preference, they are all good choices so far. IMO

I just upgraded my Raptor 30 to a 50. I had a Hyper 50 laying around, so I decided to just experiment with it. I must say that this heli really woke up with the longer boom, 50 gearing, and 600mm blades. I did it with a mix of Mavrikk parts from Heliproz so I would not have to spend the cash on Thunder Tiger parts. I also used the KBDD paddles and they really let me throw the heli around.

i'd go with meatbob and the rest who goes for converting your rappy "if" your servos can handle it.

you may have save some money now but consider the cost of building a new heli, of course the kit is cheap but when you go installing the electronics (servos, rx, gyro, governor, voltage regulator), cost shoots up tremendously.

one thing i like about rappy's is that they fly forever. and parts cost is good too ($20+ for an airframe).

I personally would keep your raptor 30 and work on purchasing a new 50 size machine. That way you have two nice helis to fly

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

I'm a raptor fan but depending what your goal is on flying . If you just want to sport fly and dont do hard 3D then convert to 50 and if will fly the same and have more power . The Sceadu is a nice heli but can be finicky. I dont like the start shaft setup and the head for my flying , but is my opinion. If you were to buy a new heli the new Raptor 50 is not out yet but looks nice or go to Align 600 for parts and repair ease .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)
