Need some Logo expert advice. Would I be better off using the 11T or 12T pinion on my Logo 600? I am using the following:

12S, 4,000 mAh packs
Xera 4030/3Y - 470KV motor
CC ICE 80HV ESC (I will use Set RPM Gov mode)
Mod 1 (106T) main gear
either Rotortech 610 or Edge 603 blades
Target HS 2150 rpm - 2200 rpm

Based on my calculations and using 45V for the 12S pack, the 11T pinion will require 100% throttle at 2200 HS. The 12T requires 92%.

I realize the voltage will be higher in the beginning of the flight, so the 11T would be OK initially. But, the ending voltage (80%) will be closer to 43V, so 2100 RPM is max at end with the 11T.

I could go with the 2100 HS and the 11T or the 12T at 2200 HS. Which way should I go?

Oh yeah, the relatively high HS is for hard 3D, or at least as hard as I can do.

I'm running a 500kv motor on 12s and i need 11t to get a consistent 2100 rpm on mod1 603mm, so i'm pretty sure you'll need 12T.

I have the same setup. For governor you need probably about 20% of the max headspeed for headroom. I would say 13T is the gear of choice for 2200rpm. I have had much success with that gearing.

Long,I thought the current way of setting up the motor / ESC was to gear so the throttle is around 93% at desired HS for max. effeciency.
It is my understanding that the 75-80% rule creates a lot on wasted energy in the form of heat.

Am I wrong in this thinking?

MrMels calculator shows the 12T will cause the CC ESC to be in the red at 2020 HS using Set RPM Gov mode. Does this mean it won't govern at all, govern effectively, or is this just CC's being conservative?

its cc being conservative. I run pinions that the cc software says "too high rpm" by roughly 200 rpm and it holds great as well as keeps amp spikes down while giving you the same "grunt" in flight, if not more because of the lower gearing. I was running 12 tooth on my 12s logo 600 mod 1 at 2000 rpm, and when i switched to 11t and kept the headspeed identical, my current peaks went down about 20% and overall the system was about 15% more efficient, meaning for the exact same flight i got 15% more flying time. I think its best to always gear as low as possible. its easier on everything, and the worst thing that happens is it won't hold headspeed exactly towards teh end of the pack if your on the hairy edge. using a larger pinion sucks more current during peak demands, bogs easier and is harder on all your equipment.

Thanks mmc205. That's what I thought. I think the 470 KV of the Xera will need the 12T.
