In a moment of utter boredom at work yesterday, I thought ... "I bet the weather will stay bright and sunny well into the evening ... I'd like to do some APing!".
So with the current competition-theme (on RCGroups) of 'Local Culture' on my mind, after supper I set off for a spot in Surrey that I've always wanted to photograph – Leith Hill Tower.Information from the National Trust
(who own the tower)
More info from Wikipedia
It's normally teeming with hikers, tourists and cyclists, but fortunately yesterday evening at around 2000 it was completely deserted! So with the sun licking the top of the tower I set the heli up and sent it up ... and the views speak for themselves
I accidentally underexposed the shots by about 1 stop (should have shot with twice the ISO speed, or half the shutter speed), and on top of that, I had to *really* boost the shadows in Photoshop to get any useful detail back. The shots were taken at ISO400 so the dark areas were pretty noisy when I brightened everything up. Still, for web purposes they're just fine
I'm so glad I made the effort to go out when I saw the weather was nice - I'm thrilled with the results and I'm sure the National Trust would be interested to use them
Being the philanthropist that I am (not often mind
), I might donate the images to them in return for a credit on their website .... will see
Cheers all, I'm off to bed!
PS. I will upload smaller photos soon ...
