I was reading up on the Kill-A-Watt, and it apparently will melt down if you try and put too much amperage through it. The newer ones will just trip a circuit breaker.

It's rated @ 15amps, the 2000 is something like 13.

Yea, I know... I just have to use the 24V 27A PS I have until I can get my hands on one of the higher powered 25V 36-47A units I'm looking at.

I'm just curious if the 2000w gen will work in rapidity's case.
Dave, you probably know this, but the PS wattage is Amps X Volts. So that PS is capable of 648 Watts. The PL8 requires 1200W input to max it out, so your PS will only take it about half way

The 2000 has no problem running this charger at 30amps. It barely breaks a sweat. We ran it the whole charge in eco mode.

Here's the numbers we came up with.

We're charging 2 6s 5000mah hyperions in parallel in balance mode with fast balance.

25A charge

@23.09V battery
amps out of the generator 8.6
22.1A out of the power supplies
ps voltage 26.9

@24V battery
amps generator 8.96
23.1A ps
26.9V

@24.9V batt
amps generator 9.32
24.2A ps
26.9V

30A charge

@23.18V batt
amps gen 10.3
27A ps
26.9V

@24V batt
amps gen 10.64
28A ps
26.9V

@24.9V batt
amps gen 11.02
29.5A ps
26.9V

Highest amps seen coming out of generator was 11.3A

For both charges ending voltage rest was 25.06V
Starting voltages were 22.27, and 22.26 / 22.31 and 22.31

25A charge put back 7483mah in 21min 6sec

30A charge something strange happened. At 25.2V mah charged showed at just around 1000mah, don't remember exactly. I could see something wasn't going right. Voltage started to show 25.35, so I terminated the charge which was at about 12 min and some change. Checked the pack voltages with fluke, seen voltage was ok, and restarted charge which lasted another 2 min and some change. So at 30A time looks to be 14-15minutes.

Not sure what happened with this charge, but the mah going back in wasn't registering right with the charger. It should have been close to the 7500mah number.

We're gonna try again tomorrow if the weather straightens out.

Easy to see why my 1000 kept blowing the circuit. I was thinking each receptacle could handle 8A, but its prob one 8A circuit for both receptacles. Where the 2000 is over 13A.

Best we can do with the equip we have. Thanks to Marko for the help and the 2000!!

Hey, could you run a couple of the iCharger P350 power supplies in series (or in parallel) to power one of these chargers?

I've charged 8 5000 6S batts (1C charge each) at once with my 2000. It did not remain at an idle during this time, but it also was not running at peak either. I'm pretty sure the 2000i would run a 50A 28V
charger...because I was pulling 40A charging 8 batts at once to 25V
and it was not maxed. It has a lot of power available.

Not at 30A, since the ps is a 23A unit, unless you went parallel. But then because you are under voltage, you'll only get 500W max from the charger. Bottom line, if you under feed it in either amps or volts it will not roar to it's full potential!

Seems there is no choice but to buy a bigger power supply. Has anyone used the 24V 40A 1100W Iota power supply that David has listed for sale at Progressive? It appears to be not as "user friendly" as the P350 setup. Does it have a variable rate fan like the P350? Is it a good power supply?

I have 2 IOTA 55amp and 2 90amp 12v ps. and they have been very reliable. Oldest one is over 10yrs old. In use at least 2-3 times per week. Would buy the 24v IOTA with confidence. Plus they have service available in the USA.
What I don't like about the iChargers is there is no service available after the end of the one yr warranty.
I have a malfunctioning 1010b+ and it's paperweight now. Bought from Amain. Just wished I had bought it from Progressive.

Rather be buying an FMA PL8 (1000w) or the upcoming new TP charger (700w). Just my 2 cents.

Justin;
It's a little cheaper to buy 2 55A 13.6V power supplies than to buy one 40A 27.2V power supply. And you will get a lot more power out of them for these big chargers when linked in series. Another benefit is they will take a 2000i to it's max of approx 1600W, the 40A 27.2V will not. Which makes more sense to you?

Much better set up, more power for a little less money. The only neg is two units instead of one, but the advantages far out wieght the one disadvantage. Plus some chargers have a 15V max input, so you could separarte the PS's and use one at 13.6V. And yes they work perfectly in series...

4cyclic, you had me worried about service after warrantee on the ichargers with your post. So I called progressive and talked to David Gray. He said he would take care of anyone anytime who has a service issue with his company's chargers. He said he could have your 1010B fixed or replaced. E-mail him @ david@progressiverc.com
Even a long time after warrantee is over!

Thanks Band, I'll contact David. I just wished I had bought from him originally. He's a good guy

Yes you can put 2 IOTA in series. Just make sure they are not the IQ4 models. By the way the IOTA alu box does not share ground with the ac ground.
Big bonus in my book. No special precautions needed.

I'm using a triton 2 eq on AC and charging a 2200 3 cell 50% drained and it takes 1 hour and 40 min, is this normal? I'd like to look into one of these units if it can balance charge at a much faster rate
