I just let it sit in denatured alcohol for a couple minutes and then wipe the threadlock off the bolts.

Question....why do you want to clean off the dried locktite? I am not hitting on you just wondering why you would would want to clean off the lopcktite when even the old stuff helps hold the bolt in it's place. I usually just add some new to the bolt and let it go at that.

nice i got some really caked on stuff and need to clean it out i like the boil method because you dont need to buy anything to do it does it work well jeff? or need to scrub it afterwards?

i heard that doesnt work? i thought it needs metal to metal contact to work

main reason is i have had a bunch of bolts fall off my velocity and i did lock tight everything down but they still all rattled off its giving me a scare i went thru and replaced the tail shaft and rebalanced the blades to get rid of some vibrations but i wanna make sure its set up right it happened after i raised the head speed to 2050 its i hit the resonance frequency or something probably going to up it to 2100 or down to 2000 again to be safe also

FOR EXAMPLE 3 bolts rattled off the tail case and my tail case broke apart in flight and i lost the tail! i was lucky to land it.. then later the same day the servo horn came off my rudder servo!!! and i lose the tail again !!!! and then later that same day i lost the auto rotation bracket and have a hard auto! ill tell you one thing im the king of saving it ask anyone whose seen my fly lol the other week i got strait hit in the head with a corsair while flying i fell to the ground and then popped back up and landed lol

Ok well think of this, there is still locktite in the bore threads, and of you don't clean out the goop in the inside threads that you are putting the bolt into it's kind of accademic.. don't you think?

Man that must be some kind of vibes you have there to back that particular bolt out.

ya and i have no clue why im getting vibes like that!!! its ridiculous all happened when i upped hs from 2000 to 2050 so i think i hit a resonance frequency only thing i can think of resonance will definitely back out bolts in a hurry

if you clean the threads off by dipping just the threads in denatured alchol or nail polish remover thinner. but keep the bolt head out as this will clean the protection oil offf. and your bolt head will rust /corrode. Also the green med locker has deoiling capibilities in it, if i am remembering correctly.

For bolts, I press a blade at an angle to the threads and turn the bolt with the screw/ball driver. This will clean the old lock tight out. Almost like using a die. Then clean surface with cleaning agent, alcohol or brake/carb cleaner.

For threads inside, such as spacers/nuts, I just flush it out with carb/brake cleaner or similar cleaning agent.
then later the same day the servo horn came off my rudder servo!!! and i lose the tail again !!!!
For screws going into the servo spline, I put a small amount of CA under the head of the screw. This will lock the screw to the servo horn. Don't get any CA on to the threads, just the inner/bottom surface of the screw head.

I have used denatured alcohol on the threads and that normally works well enough for me.

i heard that doesnt work?
I've been cleaning the bolt with denatured alcohol with a rag (i screw the bolt in the rag while I hold the threads with my nails) and then add a new layer of loctite.

I've been doing this for five years now and never had a bolt come off.

If you are having problems I would suggest to double check the heli for vibrations.

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.

Not alot but then add slop of links and servos now you have bad vibrations plus vibe 50s and 90s have sensitive tails if you dont get mesh rite on .On a trex you can fly with all kinds of vibes but to have that bolt back out maybe not tight enough from the start .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

tail blade? that is a lot considering a blade weighs ~5g and how fast they spin (~4x faster than the mains)
