The police are looking into

whether the firearms were held on a legal basis or otherwise, there are usually plenty of legally owned guns in country areas,no protection if the owner flips for whatever reason. He shot a farmers son working in a field as well as a lady delivering catologues.

Guns were held legally

He had all the paperwork for his .22 rifle and shotgun.A license to kill in his case, when someone flips holding a license does not count for much. This guy was a well known member of the community and never gave any sign that he would be capable of this.

And if you were 'citizens' instead of 'subjects' and had the right to go armed, perhaps this lunatic would have been stopped before killing so many.

The "gun free zone" is the happy hunting ground of these cowards, and the anti-gun crowd refuses to acknowledge that the only thing that deters and ultimately stops them is the righteous application of deadly force by armed good guys.

I still reckon that if there had been armed civilians

running into the steet with weapons, how would you know who started the shooting or who to shoot at.The guy that started it might say "it was him over there"just before he gave you a new parting with a bullet,or you shoot the "gunman"and then wonder why armed police are shouting at you to put the gun down because you have just shot an armed "innocent"shopkeeper trying to defend himself.Just thinking about this scenario makes me shudder.Even soldiers have killed the wrong person when every tom dick and harry civilian is running around with a weapon.

blah, blah, blah.... Just thinking about this scenario makes me shudder.
Then just say "Baaaa...", and stop whining when your fellow sheep are butchered.

There are bad people in the world, and the only thing that has ever stopped them, and the only thing that ever will, are good people with the tools, and more importantly, the will, to put them down.

If you don't have the will (and the stomach to accept the responsibility that goes with it), just say "Baaaa..."

That's right. And with your training, would you not be a good candidate for a Concealed weapons permit?

If you had been in the area of this incident, saw it going down, could YOU have responded, taken action that may have saved a few lives?

Apparently the Police couldn't respond fast enough, maybe it's up to some citizens to take responsibility for the safety and welfare of their neighbors.

I still have guns for hunting

concealed weapons are not allowed here for civilians,it would be a concern to me that an untrained person with high powered weapons or otherwise,no knowledge of ballistics and penetration started a gun battle in a busy steet. If you were in a position to act and could 100% identify the target then i think most if capable would not hesitate.I think it takes a cool head to respond to this type of situation, this is where training should kick in.If you had a concealed handgun and your opponent had a scoped rifle you would need to be sure of the pitfalls of a hand held unless you were Clint Eastwood that is

most people that have a carry permit, are already very knowledgeable about guns (not all, but MOST). And it is now a requirement to take a class that teaches all that you mentioned, plus teaches safety, how to shoot, etc. The people I know that have one (me too, soon I hope), take their own firearms to the class (most times held at a firing range). I'm not positive, but I think that may be a REQUIREMENT now to handle and fire your own firearm in the company of your instructor..

correct me if i am wrong, but from my understanding wasn't this particular rampage conducted over a five hour period, before the loon sprayed-out his own brains?

I think

the"Lone Ranger" was out of town at the time The shooter travelled over quite a large area shooting people at random, might sound easy but im sure this is a very large area to cover. We all know now who they were looking for after the event, how much did the police know at the time, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Shaw: right on. Nothing the cops could really do and not sure how much armed citizens could've accomplished in this scenario.
Tin: you're back!!! And again, you're wrong. Things would be much, much worse here if all law abiding citizens turned in their guns. Think about it for one minute and save me from spewing the pro-gun rhetoric.

It does in fact work very well! Every day crimes are stopped or prevented by armed citizens in this country. You just don't know about it because prevented crimes are not reported by the media.

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about!

Yup, sure you guys are living proof of that....

However we both can in fact only guess what the outcome would be, even if you think you are able to predict it...fact is he had weapons and used them to kill. If your need to have arms makes you accept that it will happen to your fellow citizens again then just go ahead and keep your love for your fellow americans...

soooo..... you're saying when that monkey breaks into my place to steal my stuff, that he has love for me because I'm an American??? Nice to know.
I love guns, always have. But if I thought you could round up every single one, then I MIGHT be OK with getting rid of them. HOWEVER, when I catch myself saying that, I have to look at our own government and think, there's no way I trust them enough to hand over my firearms. I have no doubt, none, that without private firearms, this administration would already be hatching a plan to put us under Martial Law.
Tin, you have to remember, we are a MUCH larger and much more DIVERSE population than you are. You're comparing apples and potatoes my friend.
