My spectraG is too heavy, so..., I decide to convert it to electronic ignition and get rid of magneto and ohter heavy coils...also I hope better performance in the motor drive by CDI, instead of the old magneto stuff.

All CDI that I have found in internet is for airplanes...not for helicopter!

The magneto, coil and spark coil is about 1 Kilogram...and it is easy to remove... my problem is.. where can I find the conversion Kit to CDI for Zenoah motors?...23cc by the way...

It is not as easy to get one for airplanes and install it... sensor allocation is the issue...and some assembly is required.

Where can I get this "dream kit"?

You might well find

you have a vibration issue if you remove the flywheel on a helicopter engine.

flywheel...

Vibrations when we pull out the flywheel?...mmmm...

Crankshaft/Rod/piston are not already balanced on this motor?... I think It is...

Flywheel is balanced apart..! or not?

In Zenoah 20cc Ei , Zenoah gets rid of heavy flywheel and no problems...

ch ignitions offers a cdi kit for the puh motors. The sensor bolts into the place of the trigger coil and there is a much smaller flywheel included that has the trigger magnet in it.

these motors like flywheel weight though so as someone else mentioned expect some other behavioral changes because of all the rotational weight being removed.

I have found that by removing the flywheel, and all, to change out to a CDI, there really isn't that much weight loss, once you add the weight of the battery for the ignition, what you think you will gain is almost lost in battery weight, switch, and ignition parts, Now I do have one gasser flying with a electronic ignition, it does away with the points, and condensor, Just need to know how many magnuts are on the flywheel,,works great,, Good luck on the change,, XGM/VGM

But the engine was designed for it from the ground up. It is also smaller so the weight differential is less. You will see a transition in weight with glow engine cranks when you go from a small one to a very large one. As the piston gets bigger you have to counter weight it. Also remember that it is inertia that compresses the fuel air mixture during the compression stroke. Without the flywheel weight the crankshaft would slow down and speed up on ever stroke much more drastic than it does now. That really puts vibration in the gearing.

What I like about the RC type engines is that they also use the flywheel as the fan. This makes much more sense to me then the PUH style engines.

Yes a better set up all round

and the RC motor has a much larger flywheel/fan combo which makes for a smooth and cooler running stock motor, with these stock parts designed for the job at hand only drawback is it is heavier if you want a lot of aerobatic performance.

drawback is it is heavier
If you add all the extra components, hub, fan, shroud to the PUH what is that difference exactly? Secondly, if the engine was designed specifically for a helicopter how much lighter could the RC type engine be? Thirdly, using the case of the engine as a structural part of the heli how many frame parts could be eliminated. I admit that one of the down sides of using the case as the frame means that in a crash the case could be broken. Although I am not sure that would mean an increase in crash cost.

Bye Bye flywheel...

Very interesting all your posts...

Bye Bye heavy flywheel...!!!

Look at this picture in www.ch-ignitions.com.

See the big "new" flywheel?... so, we pull out flywheel and coil and install this litttle things and... fly around!!!

Flywheel is not related directly to motor balance... It is a simple magneto stuff. The motor balance is taken by the big crankshaft in Zenoah...
Flywheel helps in adding intertial momentum to more stable 2T explotions... so, It is good to be more carefull in carburation routines.

Let give it a try..!
