Hello all

I purchased the CC Pro BEC since it is rated for 12s lipo while the one i use (medusa research) is only rated for 10s. i wanted some breathing room, although i have had no problems up to this point. Hooked everything up correctly and plugged in the battery. According to the tech guy at CC, the BEC fried in the open position, a one in a million fluke in his words. In other words, it sent all 42 volts thru all of my electronics. Here's what fried: (everything)

1 - Kontronic 55-10-32 speedo
2 - Futaba 7 channel fasst reciever
3 - Spartan rc Pro gyro
4 - servo from gy 601
5 - (3) futaba 9252 digital servos
6 - and of course the CC bec.

Guy from CC said he would replace the BEC. whoa! thanks!

trying to make it to the funfly in Saranac this week end so i ordered replacements for everything. $700+

just wanted to share my sorrow. really bummed me out.

Ben

Man that really sucks. I would not even think of using a Castle BEC after hearing that. In fact I wouldn't and don't use a BEC on my big birds at all. I use a direct 2S reciever pack and a regulator for the tail servo if needed. Worst case scenario is I could fry the tail servo if the regulator failed. I couldn't imagine having all the electronics fry. A crash is one thing but usually you don't destroy all the electronics as this is what most of the cost of the bird is. Sorry for the bad luck.

That's pure disgusting. That's a lot of expensive fried stuff!!!

If CC admitted it was their fault with there own product I would hope they would at least offer to partly cover the cost of damage (Not just their BEC)!

A question, was this the very first time it had been powered?
I mean if you got a bad one, one that did that, will it always pass thru the HV. On the other hand if there is a good one, will it not suffer this defect? Or is it a matter of time till MY 1 in 1000 comes around?
Or can I power mine and measure the output, if its full 6S its bad or if its regulated its good?

RIP ROMAN

Sorry to hear that. I hope you get it flying soon. I'm glad your sharing this info so others can benefit from it. I was about to use the same bec; I'm glad I didn't. Instead I went with another.

Where are all of the castle defenders now? This is NOT the first time I've seen someone say a cc pro bec fried almost all (if not all) of their electronics. I've seen a few posts on the other forum about it as well. I will never be buying one of their bec's.

I'm sorry to hear about your trouble man. That's BS!

I've been on the fence about CC products. Now I'm not! That really blows.

I guess if anyone has a new one they could measure the voltage output before using it? Might save your bacon .

Saying yes may keep you without a heli until you can replace all of your electronics though Are you a gambling man?

Sadly the more of this exact same issue I hear about the more it would scare me about even using 1 for a second. Thats all it takes. To be fair, it could happen to anyone or anything...but this seems to be coming up more and more...

So I'm hearing that no body has good experience with CC products. Well at IRCHA last year I bought a ICE 75 ESC from them. Put over 400 flights to date on it without a single problem. Now I've installed a CC Pro BEC in my Logo 500 with a ICE 100 ESC and one in my Logo 600 with a ICE 80 HV ESC, have over 110 combined flights with one problem. Therefore for the time being I am satisfied with their products.

I think the big problem is using 12s with these BECs. They seem to not handle it well.........Ron

I felt the same way like you, I flew castle for more than 100 flights and it only took one event; it cost me so far $400 to replace all parts broken and I'm still not in the air. I really gave them the benefit of the doubt but now I just pulled the trigger on a jive. I had the ice hv 80 and hv85 running 12S. For me the small investment up front now it's worth it.

I run Castle ESCs in most of my birds and they have worked well. I will however not use their's (or others' BEC because of reported failures. That is the reason I like to use a reciever pack instead. I want to insure the I can maintain control of the heli. If the ESC burns up it's not that big of a deal but if you lose all control it can be very dangerous.

@steffgiguere, do you use 12S in your Logo 600? I was planning on using the CC Pro BEC and the CC Ice 80HV ESC in my 600.

I have had mostly good experiences with CC. However, I did have the BEC section of 2 Phoenix 45 ESC's burn out. Now, after reading this I'm not sure I want to use the CC Pro BEC in my Logo 600.

I will be running 12S. Does anyone have good experience with the Western Robotics BEC's?
