I was doing my routine 3D flight in a local field with my Logo600,and my deans castle creation connectors came loose on the solder joint in mid filght!!.

Luckly, i was able to auto safe without heavy damge.
re-edited:
From now on, i will use the EC-5 bullet connectors on all my logo's,
and avoid anymore mishappening.

BTW-The deans connectors were always been good for me in the past until this recient incident.(maybe it's a sign to change connector brand)lol

Ec3 is on the small side for any 10 awg cables, may i suggest ec5 instead.

I did the same switch for the same reason, my friends too.
But unfortunally too late, i.e. Crashed first...

is that a pre-made y harness you purchased? because from my experience pre-made connectors do not have good solder joints, it is much better to do it yourself.

@wingman77

Yes, they are pre-made from the CC factory.

I would of thought that getting it straight from the factory would be better, and more quality wise, but i guess i'm wrong!.

There is always a first time for this to happen, and re evaluate the issue what cause it, but second time?.....hmmm?...I Don't think so!.lol

IMPO-I don't think i'll take my chances with those connectors any time soon, or at all.
I'm lucky to manage the heli to upright position before it cut off, and for it to auto without any control.

I'm better off something more secured, and less issue which are the Ec5 connectors.

@CX1
Well actually,i was advised by other pro pilots to changed the connectors to EC5 long time ago, but i was too stubborn to listen to them, due to having good success with the deans, and had no issues with them until now.

I figured if it ain't broken, don't fix it,right!.lol....But i guess it just take something small for me to realized that it's not worth going back to the same mistakes.

The deans connectors are fine to a certain point, but doing hard 3D with all the vibrating and bending/twisting inside a larger heli,...IMPO, i think it needs something more secure solid locked in the connectors.

I would still use the deans connectors on smaller size heli(450/250), but not on 600 or 90 size heli.

The only problems I've ever had with Deans connectors had to do with the solder job not the connector itself. BTW I hate soldering the things on anything larger than 12-14 gauge wire. I really dislike the fact that the they use a relatively low temp plastic that melts if you hold the iron on just a little too long. I mean why not use a higher temp plastic? For what we pay for them they should be able to afford it. Heck I had these Hobby City deans type connectors that had a grips built into them and were made of a higher temp plastic. They were superior to Deans in every way but I guess the manufacturer was sued and they are no longer available. If I had known they were going away I'd have bought hundreds of them. They have an XT on the side of them. I'd switch to EC3 and 5s or Anderson Power Poles ( I like the crimp connection a lot) except for the fact that I would no longer be able to share packs with the guys I fly with. So I'm stuck with deans for now.

I C
it's the larger gauge wire used on the larger sized heli's that warrants the EC3 connectors VS trying to get a good solder joint using 10 gauge wire and the (IMO) small deans connector.

good point

I just fly a swift 550 and a 6s pack

Me. Mel got me onto XT-60s for 6s stuff and EC5s for 10-12s no looking back. I even use EC5 ends for my motor/esc connectors now as well, work excellent! Thanks for the push Fredrik!

Shawn,

What was MrMel's argument for the EC5s? The reason stated above, or was it more than that? Haven't seen it yet.

The XT-60's work great. I think the XT-60's are the replacement for the imitation Deans. The only problem is you can't get them anywhere except HobbyCity.

I believe that the biggest reasons for the EC5's were:
-consistently lower contact resistance over time
-great captivation
-polarization

Nothing wrong with deans, the problem is with the user and the way they solder them.

Took me about two tries to get a decent deans solder.

I might goto EC5s at a later date but I still prefer Deans currently.

I ordered some EC-5 connectors from HobbyCity today. They were $1.99 a pair which is a lot less than the link which was posted earlier. Are the HobbyCity EC-5 connectors the "real thing" or are they a cheap imitation?

Ive tested hc ec5 vs original and could not find any difference (performance and measurements), my guess is same factory....

I dont recommend xt60 for anything bigger than 12 gauge and not for 100+ amps

I barely touch 100 amps with 12S setup that's why the xt60 . My average amps is 17amps according to the data logger. I guess when I need more amps then EC5 is the next connectors.

dude, that avant is making me slobber. Did you fly it yet? Nice tray of batteries you got there, you could probably power a house with that.
