I know this is far from heli's but i have a guestion that some of you might know the answer too. I have a 8v golf cart battery and i just bought a 6v charger, will the 6v charger charge the battery but just take longer? Will it damage the battery or not?

Thanks to all that can help
Ivan

Nope. Voltage needs to be same or greater....greater to a point.

What if i use the 12v side and turn the amps down low and keep testing the battery by touching it to make sure it does not get hot? Now i could kick my butt for just buying this charger. Let me know what you think about the 12v?

Thanks for your fast reply
Ivan

I work on scissor lift aerial equipment. Most are 24V system I seen chargers top off at 30V.
Charging at 12V on a 8V battery shouldn't present a problem as long the amperage is kept low(less then 5A). I'd still keep an eye on it and charge it in a safe place!

Would be much better to have a proper charger for that.

http://www.batterymart.com/p-batter...ry-charger.html

if you charge with a 12v charger it will clamp to a certain maximim voltage 13.something volts (higher than you want for an 8 volt battery. ) you'l need to find out what that maximum voltage is for the 8 volt lead acid. You could get away with stopping in time if you are moniotoring that voltage, but it would be well worth it to just get the proper 8 volt charger if you plan on doing that more than once.

I wouldn't be caught dead charging a battery with a charger not rated at the correct voltage.

I seen them in old Ford tractors that ran a 6V system. That two more volts made a big difference.

You forgot the 16V. We used in race cars, didn't run an alternator.

I charge 25V lipos off a 13.4V power supply. Seems to work fine.

The charger bumps up the voltage. Can't remember the correct term for it at this time.

Yes Lb batteries get warm when fully charged or if a cell is faulty. I seen them too hot to the touch. Only time I seen one explode is if an arc is produced close by.....What did ya say? WHAT?

Hook up some kind of charger that will produce C/10 to C/4 current and monitor the charging. Stop the charging if the battery gets warm, starts bubling or you start smelling sulpheric acid.

Thanks for the help you guys are great and you helped me in my time of need, Thats what heli friends are all about helping each other. I love all helis but if i had to pick my favorite it would be the Hirobo, if they made a new gasser tomar i would buy one. But there all good and i want one of every gasser on the market. I like all gassers so i'm not taking sides. The very next heli i'm getting is a Preditor i like the radikal but if i want a to i will buy a airhogs. I want a mans machine not a down sized version of a mans machine. I like 90's that she bottom line.

Thanks
Ivan
