As said the 700E is a hit, just look around the various 700E threads on several forums...
That said I love the way my 700E flies. Its my 1st FBL, so I don't have anything to compare to other than a FB 700N and to me its a night n day difference...
I also love my 500ESP and prolly slap it around the hardest, so its my fav. at the moment. I just cant make up my mind on the 550E, the 4 min flight times on another heli are what I don't like. The 550E seems to have a nice layout, and Im sure will out fly my 600LE, but im now leaning towards the OS55/FBL upgrade on the 600 instead.....

re

There is very little crash cost difference between the 550E and 500. I own both and did a part to part comparison and most parts are a few dollars more at most. I plan to keep my 500ESP to throw around a bit more and try newer stuff and then fly my 550E a little more conservatively. I also love my Vibe 50 nitro, so it looks like time to ditch the 450 as it just sits most of the time!

Large helicopters fly a lot better than small ones. It’s much easier to learn 3D. In the past the problem was battery cost but with the cost of nitro fuel going up and the price of LiPo battery now 1/4 of what they were a few years ago large electrics are more practical. Electric helicopters also have better performance than nitro.

If you can afford to get a 700E go for it.

A 550E and a 700E is the perfect fleet because you can use the same batteries in both.
I totally agree - large helicopters are the way to go if you can afford it. However, I'm not convinced of electric on the 90-size yet. When I have a new set of batteries, I totally love the way my 600ESP flies, but the problem is, 40 or 50 cycles into the pack, it's weak and pathetic. Fine for just mellow FF, but no fun for anything aggressive. The packs I was using ran about $260 each, so my cost per minute of good flight was at best $1.30. Packs are cheaper these days, so with Turnigy packs, or something similar, I suppose I could fly for $0.45/minute on the 600, or $0.90/minute on the 700e. I run my 700N on CoolPower 30, and I get nearly an hour per gallon, and pay about $25/gallon, so that's about $0.45/minute. I believe the flight weight of the 700e is considerably higher than the 700N as well - anyone have both that can post actual weights?

Certainly there are many more pros and cons, but I think in terms of cost of operation, nitro wins.

Just on comparison of the 700N vs. 700e, I watched Bert at a fun fly the other weekend and he had 2 700's, 1 700n fb and 1 700e fb, and that 700e was simply insane, it made the nitro look so slow and sluggish, even though I know it isn't, but just a comparison of seeing the same pilot on the 2 different machines, that electric was really impressive.

I live at the end of a 1-way dead end street.

anyone think the 550 frame cost will come down? 120.00 seems pretty steep..are they that durable in a crash?
