Yes, that is what I always thought, and this item is still under warranty.

I had came across this with a 9251 actually. My Freya once landed on thick grass with the tail blades hitting the grass. No issue at all until a few flights after, I notice the tail servo did not move(easily see this on hovering) and the heli starts piro without any contol on the tail. This occurs quite consistently but on the bench, it works normal.

Replaced just the servo and it was working fine since. I once have a chat with Futaba engineer that he said, tail servos are high performance servo so you can not expect same life span like the other cyclic servos.

For JR gyro, I uses 7000T so I don't have experience on others. 7000T + 8700G work fantastic brand new, until near hundred flights mark, it would go hunting like crazy, whenever the heli in vertical descend in any aerobatic move(I do FAI flying mainly) into horizontal flight. mind you that I am using a good governor.

I then send the entire combo back to JR and come back working like new again.

Enough for my sharing and to your problem, if I were you, I will for sure take it out and replace it. One tail servo can not compare the potential damage that it can cause.

That is exactly my 8900 was doing at about 90 flights when it started to degrade. I lowered the gain, but did not help.

This was exactly what I did for the first times it happened. Then I did not bother but packed the gyro plus the servo to JR.

I guess initially you had this hunting and the hunting accelerated the wear and tear of the servo due to prolonged usage in this manner.

If this is true, then the gyro which driving this servo should be sent in as well.

Horizon came thru, they are replacing the servo, and said if the problem continues the gyro will be replaced too.

THANK YOU HORIZON!

Outstanding.....I am sure your continued calling and the posting here aided in the resolution of the issue. I just did not have enough desire to spend the time going back and forth as you did and my sponsor (Mastercard/Visa) told me it was better to buy something new than to ask for many times more money to fix/replace the machine.

Congrats though.

I don’t think so. I was never contacted by John Adams who supposedly hovers around here. I never mentioned forum threads. I simply was able to relate the issue to the service manager and he understood.

Well glad to see it was resolved. Sorry you had to go through it in the beginning. Now the only question will be how long the replacement works if there are some fundamental issues

That's what I would expect from Horizon. I have an 8900G on one heli and haven't had problems after two years and 30+ gallons of time. I also have a 9256 on another bird that's 4 yrs old and at least 100 gallons of run time, one set of gears replaced from a crash, still going strong ! Guess I'm lucky

I was never impressed with the 770 and 8900 combo, it was a very fussy and twitchy setup, tried it on two helis and went back to my trusty 611's
