so here is setup:
t-rex 500 esp
14 tooth pinion
cc ice 75
new style align 500m motor
6s 3000 20c flightmax lipo. (tired lipo)

short flight. i didnt want to overheat anything so just 1 short flight to see what was going on.

the lipo has seen better days. new ones are on the way.

the flight was pretty short. the end of flight was just basic cruising around. 2600 rpm is a little slow for me. next flights will be will a 16 pinion @ 2700rpm.

14 tooth pinion @ 2600 headspeed in gov. mode is not really doable.
16 tooth pinion @2700 in gov mode puts ecs at 85%, so this will be alot better on the ecs.

spikes at begiining and end of gragh was for testing throttle hold

2nd flight with 16 tooth pinion
so i installed a 16 tooth pinion.
increased rpm to 2700 in gov. mode

this time i used a 6s 3300 20c lipo. its tired too.

there was a big improvement on the way that the t-rex 500 flew with the 2700 headspeed. i liked it alot. but as you can see in the graph the lipo voltage aint what she used to be. voltage is going below 20 during manuvers.

max amps was 65A. i think a better condition lipo would decease the amps a little and keep the governed rpm in a tighter band.

i ran a little long. over 6 minutes. voltage just dumped at the end of the flight. I used to be able to get over 6 min. with the 3300 packs with the old 13tooth 100% throttle curve ungoverned.

So this new setup uses the lipos at a faster rate.
It also looks important to have good condition lipos.
All my lipos are the 20c type. I do have new 30c lipos coming. this should be a big improvement.

the second half of the flight i tamed down my flying to see what the graph would look like with 2 different flying styles. the first half was more 3d, the second half was more sport flying.

I do see that Motor Power Out is bouncing off 100%. I hope better condition lipos will help this.

*note* I charged the lipo after the flight and it took 2650. thats right at the 80% capacity. that also when the the low voltage warning kicked in on the esc. So that shows that the life of the lipo is pretty much over.

Also the graph says it used 1900 milliamps. so thats not very accurate

i was running the 500l motor with the align esc ungoverned at 100%throttle curve and the heli ran great.
I then went to the ice 75 and the 500m motor governed. so i cant really compare the two.

To really compare the new motor to the old one you would prolly have to just change out the old motor for the new one and fly it to see the difference.
so i really cant say.

the old stock set up i had would run at about 2810 rpm at the start of the flight then drop down to about 2670 rpm at the end of the flight.

I was thinking..... just use the align esc ungoverned with 100% throttle curve 13 tooth pinion and the NEW 500m motor and call it good.

The ice in governor mode taxes the lipos more. But then the whole reason for going with the ice is to keep a consistant head speed. the old setup was just an easy plug and play heli with no worries. the new governed stuff is nice for peeps who like to tinker and fly with the same headspeed the whole flight.

deffinatly run that motor on LOW timing with outrunner mode.. you will notice a huge difference with fresh packs,30c should be what you want, Turnigy 6s 2450mah 30c cost $44.00 at HC (i use em and get 6min of 3D)also it wont spike 100% throttle as often...but its still ok that it hits 100% throttle even with the new packs

I ran the ICE 50 on my ESP 500 with the scorpion 1600kv on a 14t at 2730rpm and it hit 100% alot,couldnt tell when flying,still alot smoother then a flat curve..As long as your around 88%-90% throttle at 0 pitch through the gov you will be A ok.. i see no need to go up even higher to a 15T pinnion your going to start loosing tourqe through gearing

3rd flights update
3 flights with 3 NEW turnigy 6s 3000 30c lipos.
new align 500M motor
16 tooth pinion

mostly sport flying with some 3d stuff.

heli flys much better with new lipos

outside air temp about 50 degrees
motor, esc and batteries all barely warm to the touch.

im not getting to the 100% power out on the graph. max is about 95%.

should i reduce my pinion from 16 to 15 ??

I have a 14 tooth pinion and a scorpion 1600. I run 2700 headpeed and end @95% power. I just putter so if I was drawing any amps I would be maxing it out. Thats with a 5 minute run on a 40c 3000 and 2450mah 30c is about the same.

Up the gain on the esc like it was a gyro, when it starts "hunting" bring it down, i dont have anything lower then 15 on the gain.

5th flights
same set-up as above post but i upped the gain from 12 to 14. there was no noticable difference in the flight characteristics of the heli.

15t pinion
ice 75 esc
500m motor
6s 3000 30c turnigy lipos

mostly heavy sport flying in this set of graphs. power out only barely touches 100%. in the last post i was flying much more agressive and was hitting the 100%. So it looks like ill be using the 15t pinion from here on out.
