The hub thing is the reason why it may go past your house then back to it. As for it costing more to ship bigger parcels thats because the usps doesnt have its own planes so the air companies they deal with charge them a certain amount of money to use there planes. The bigger the package the more space it takes up on these planes so the more the post office gets charged the more the consumer gets charged. ups and fed ex only deliver parcels so that is all they have to worry about. The funniest thing is before dhl went out of business they used to drop of some of their parcels at the post office for us to deliver and ups still does this every day. I am not trying to cover for the usps, believe me, every year they cut my pay. Just trying to explain the system.

Brian hope you get your package soon. As for the job, it used to be a great place to work. The worse thing is its all the people that make the post office work, the clerks, the city carriers and the rural carriers that are losing money. Upper management hasnt lost a dime out of their paychecks. Go figure huh!

Finally, the package just scanned in through the bulk mail yard here in Cincinnati. That bubble wrap went about 800 miles out of it's way.

Something else I find hiliarious about the usps . You get a tracking number if you pay for it , if you watch it online it does NOTHING . Unless you call chewing on someones ear about where is my package , then the tracking process becomes play by play online . Must be some busy people .

If you're not living on the edge you're just taking up space !

I use to fly USPS mail on B-727s years ago. We had a scheduled time to leave, but 99.99% of the time we left early, like 30-60 mins. One time we hit a seagull on arival into Portland, OR and the company repositioned another B-727 from Texas for us to make our departure on time. There are serious penalties for not performing. The PO pays extremely well for services and assumes to get it or else goodbye.
Those circuitious(sp)routes make no sense if you are thinking how your package should go from point A to B. They ship to and from various sort centers and then distribute it to the final destination.
Sometimes pallets are rerouted due to limited space on an aircraft or truck. FedEx and UPS does the same. I think FedEx has been doing the USPS postal contract for airmail for a while.

I live in a small mountain town and everyone at the PO is friendly. I think if I worked at one in a big city I'd get a "Newman Complex".

For me, I really like USPS from small packages, FedEx for larger, and lastly UPS. UPS employees seem to jump on, run a fork-lift thru, drive over and finally punt the package onto the front steps.

That Hong Kong order is probably sitting in a shipping container offshore waiting to be unloaded or US Customs has to inspect it.
