So after much reading and thinking, I am ready to step up to a 450 I ordered the new E4 V2 with the Flybarless package. It's coming over from AU now. I am probably going with Futaba S3156 servos and a Fut. S9257 Tail. Motor is a Scorpion 4400KV and a 60amp ESC. The Flybarless electronics will be a Mini V-bar. Batteries will be 3s 2200mah,25c by electrifly. Radio will be Airtronics RDS8000 2.4GHz or a Futaba 8FGH 8-Channel 2.4GHz FASST. So first of all am I missing anything here? Is there anything I may want to substitute? Is there a reason to go with the regular v-bar instead of the mini? This is my first build. The only things ordered so far are the e4 v2 kit, the flybarless kit and a few extras.
Thank you for any help! Without these forums I probably would have given up on flying months ago when I was having trouble with the walkeras I have been flying. Thanks!

Hex,

You might want to give your ESC another thought as the Scorpion unit is rather large for the E4 airframe, check out Finless Bob's E4 build at HeliFreak for more info.

It would be nice to see your build log as it pertains to the V-bar, I'm wanting to do the same thing myself and would like to learn more about the process. Good luck on getting started and flying this great heli.

You'll not like the servo arms on the 3156, I got replacements from BP hobbies I think they were for the HD2216 but I'll confirm that, the stock arms are rather flimsy. I was thinking of the 3157's as they reportledy center better but I have not been able to source out more robust servo arms. I am now running HS5065's and all is good though at 4.8v they are a bit slow.
As for the Scorpion ESC I was running the V2 55a and never go tthe heat buildup issue sorted, now I am running a HW 50a and heat is not a problem thiugh I would like something with a softer "soft start".
As for the motor, It sounds like the -6 which is the max motor, I run the -8 with 13th pinion and it's great, on 2250/25c'c I get 6:30 on the timer (2d and a few loops and rolls, nothing 3d) the -6 will eat up batteries.
I prefer the Spectrum RX/TX over the RDS, did not like the really long antens wires although the RDS seemed to have more tuning ability. Also the new 6110E RX is really small but dose the job. You may already have the radio stuff so this is just MHO.
Good luck on the build, we are all interested in the updates on the "V2" so keep us posted.

If you already havent decided on a radio. Take the DX7 into consideration. The mini-vbar has two ports for spektrum satellites, which eliminates the use for a receiver.

Setup I went with is..
Beam e4 v2
Beam Flybarless head
Mini Vbar
S3157's x 3
92577 tail
Scorpion 60amp
Scorpion 3595kv (furion 450) -6
Futaba 7c Fasst
7 channel receiver
11 tooth pinion

The esc is big but I mounted it on the bottom. As of right now it will not fly. I am trying to find someone local to help out. Everything seems to work. IT spins up but will not lift off the ground. Originally the pitch was not enough, that has now been adjusted, but still not sure what the issue is. Last time I spun it up it started to pick up a little bit then one leg was up and it just fell onto its side.
Any ideas??? THank you all.

Have you worked through the setup process on the minivbar? There is not a preset for the Beam so you must set it up manually. If you go to the vstabi website and go through not only the videos but the help section http://www.vstabi.info/en/help you should on your way to a smooth flying machine.

I found a preset on there fromm someone else. I listed mine on there after tweaking and had others look at it. Also the members over there have been helping me. I think everything with that is correct. Is there any possibility I need a different pinion? maybe a 13. I bought 11, 13, 14, 15, 16 17 and I think I even have an 18.

What headspeed are you running? I used to run an 11t pinion when I was first learning to fly so I know that it does work. Now I run 13T pinion on both of my Beams, Flybarred and FBL with a headspeed of 2800 rpm governed. PM me with your email if you would like a copy of my vbar file to compare.
