I know my 10C and the 12FG show position of sticks for pitch and throttle in display. Does the 8FG also do this? I don't see it shown in the manual but I would think its there if Heli is the model selected?

Just wondering as I'm thinking of a new radio and like the price and features of the 8FG. I do like having the position of stick on Home screen though.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can see the position of the throttle/pitch stick in the display on heli and on airplane mode.

I own the 12FG as well but got a 8FG and like it.

gouki - don't have the 12FG, just wondering if the 8FG will do. It's quite a bit cheaper, and if it has most of the programming the 12FG does, I might as well save the money and go that route.

I am currently running the 10C, but from the sounds of it, 8FG has better programming options.

Now I have conflicting data. Davehour has one and just pm'd me to say there wasn't an indicator on the home screen.

Where on the home screen does it show it?

My bad then, I thought he was asking if you can see the stick position when on the throttle or pitch curve menu and the answer is yes, but not on the main screen.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks Dr.Ben, that's what I was looking for. Think I'll work with the 12FG.

What say you Dr.Ben to that choice. Is programming much more complex than my 10C?

Thanks for time and input.

Hi guys:

As Ben pointed out, there's no indication on the 8FG home screen that shows throttle stick position.

Throttle stick position is shown in some of the mixing screens, throttle and pitch curves screens, and other screens where the stick position is relevant to activate an event.

But, what benefit would it be to have an indication of throttle stick position in the home screen? Just curious.

Thank you very much.

The programming functionality of the 8FG is, generally speaking, more a modestly trimmed down version of what you'd find in a 12 series radio versus the 10C. The 8FG has markedly superior eCCPM compensation mixer software as compared to the 10C. Were I to buy a radio, I would trade home screen stick position indicating for the 8FG's eCCPM software in the wink of an eye.

Dr.Ben,

But would get the 12FG over 8FG? Is it worth the extra dollars? What if I found a decent deal on used for around $700 with 8 channel FAAST reciever?

davehour:

I like the option of having it on "Home Screen" when making tuning adustments as well as just being able to look down when I am about to spool up and see where I'm at for stick position. Just weird I guess.

I do know that I would like to have the funtionality of making the electronic adustments for interaction in the future. This is my main reason for wanting one of the two radios. I do like the price tag on the 8FG, but the 12FG would be nice as I progress in sport.

Thanks for input all.

stick position indicating
Is this INPUT or OUTPUT?

I can't see an INPUT stick position indicator being worth more than a thrill. I can look at the stick to see where it is.

I assume we're talking about an OUTPUT indicator?

Yes it is just input. Call me anal, but I like the feature. I have gotten use to it on the 10C and now I want to invest in a radio with swash interaction via electronic adjustment. If I'm going to spend the money, and its a feature I want, then its what I plan on getting.

Yes, I know we can just look at the stick and see where it's at as far as placement. Using the display tells me more accuratley where it is. I am obviously not the only one who likes this feature, or it would never have been put into radios as a function if not popular at all.

Just my two cents.

It's all good. It's your money. I think given the choice, I'd go ahead and take that feature. But not if it meant spending more than $400 more just to get it.

I might ask what application you like it for? When do you find yourself using the feature? I had the feature on my 8103. It came in handy when setting up pitch and throttle curves.

But there is a technique out there that makes the feature totally unimportant. You can use a throttle and pitch curve of 0, 50, 50, 50, 100 and midstick is as easy as pie to find. Since finding that little gem, I haven't used an indicator since. I actually PREFER not using it. I found it FAR easier to put the stick somewhere in the middle of its travel and let the radio center the servo. Without that method, say you are trying to find 50%, you must carefully move the stick if you are at 48% instead of 50%. Then you end up at 51% and have to move it back to find 50%. All this just to make it easier to set up pitch and throttle linkages.

Just my thoughts. I used to laud the feature. Now, I see the feature as a gimmick. If that is all you are hung up on about the 8FG, you might consider that upgrading to the 12FG is FAR more expensive and that there are workarounds. The 12FG will have many OTHER better features, for sure.

There are ways around using the input/output feature to set up a heli. I assume it's for setup since you won't be looking at it while flying?

In the end, it's your money obviously. Just wanted you to buy informed.
