The problem with profiling is, if you take that approach, you’re going to miss the Richard Reids, who do not fit the profile. But what we have in this case was a failure to act on a very credible report from the terrorist’s father that should, at the very least, have caused the State Department to revoke his visa
-Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine)

Maybe I'm reading this correctly, but just plain stupid. The thing is, if I'm profiling based on race/appearance, there is no way my profiling would have missed this guy getting onto a plane:

Yeah, the fact that he was a known terrorist 2 years prior to his attempt, the kafi he was wearing, his nervous behavior, and his straggly beard wouldn't have tipped anyone off.

What exactly would your profiling have been based on? His looks? He looks like millions of men in the middle east. It's funy how people are for profiling, that is until they are the ones being looked at. Remember the outrage when that intel report profiled white, conservative, christians as possible right wing extremist, and likely terrorist? Didn't feel too good to be on the other side of the looking glass eh?

For one, the authorities knew he was a terrorist 2 years before his attempted attack. His looks, his behavior, his obvious religion, and his name all were reasons for concern.
Didn't feel too good to be on the other side of the looking glass eh?
I don't give a crap about peoples feelings when they fit a suspects profile and have known terrorist connections!

That's not profiling, that's intel on someone with known terrorist activity, not even close to the same thing. His looks, name, and religion don't mean anything, if they did than I guess everyone is a terrorist because Timothy McVeigh's name, religion, and appearance fits just about everyone I know.

BS to the second part. You don't care because it isn't you.

You're wrong, I've been detained because of profiling. It wasn't a nice experience. But, it was necessary at the time. The fact is every law enforcement officer profiles suspects.

But, if it's going to make the news, they won't do it. The underwear bomber fit the profile, was on the watch list, paid for his ticket in cash, had no baggage... But, no one profiled him and he was allowed on the plane. Well, there's you're problem!

John, yes I would look at ethnicity, absolutely. When white Christian men start blowing up planes and flying them into buildings, then we can start looking at them too.

Everyone knows white conservatives do not pose a threat to anything in this country except the progressive agenda. That intel report had nothing to do with the security of this country and everything to do with the security of the current administration.

I'm searched every time!

Everytime I go through an airport, I tell TSA:"search me, let's get it over with." EVERY TIME! My only carry on is my laptop.

I accept these conditions in order to fly. Full body scans...profiling...whatever it takes. I don't care what the TSA does with me. What's the big deal? I have nothing to hide!

Now that you mention it Dibertstein, I have been pulled aside for additional searches nearly every time I have flown on an airline since 9/11. I despise airline travel because of the TSA BS. The security is absolutely worthless.

Back in 2003, my wife and I attended a convention in DC. A vendor gave us each a gift bag. The vendor warned us that if we were flying to check them with our luggage because there was a knife in each bag. Before we left the motel, my wife looked at her gift bag, pulled out a little plastic knife and laughed about it.

We flew out of Reagan Intl. Of course, we were both pulled aside for additional searches and our carry ons were hand searched after going through the metal detectors and X-ray machines. No problems, we boarded and flew home.

When my wife was unpacking, she shouted for me to come look at something. She was holding an 11" bread knife. There was one in each of our gift bags. Security completely missed them and allowed us to board with the knives in our carry on bags.

The TSA mentality is bleeding into every other aspect of our lives. We are on camera everywhere we go. We are being "profiled" by machines at sporting events and in airports. When we are driving on the turnpike, our licenses with RFID chips are being interrogated. We are being tracked by the GPS's in our cars and cell phones. Do you think the companies tracking us won't give that info to the government if it is requested? We are all being treated as criminals in the name of security. You may be okay with that. I'm not, and never will be.

Not one terror attack has been stopped because of all the new airport security. But, millions of people have been treated like criminals because of it. How in the hell can any American be okay with that?

Hip, hip hooray for the police state!!!!

Any man that would give up liberty to purchase safety deserves niether liberty, or safety.

You're as bad as the welfare crowd begging the government to take care of them. Scared of the boogeyman.

So in one post you're all giddy about profiling, and this one, it's a travesty? Interesting.

Giddy? If airport security was profiling people, they would have stopped every attempted attack since 9/11. But, they won't because they're afraid of the repercussions. Lazy, incompetent, complacent, unqualified security guards aren't worth a sh*t, no matter how much technology they have at their disposal.

Local authorities, state authorities, the FBI and the BATF were watching McVeigh. Informants were in contact with him almost daily. You don't know a damn thing about the OKC bombing.

Well, we can let these Radical Muslims come into America at will and blow up anything they choose. Including your family. We ARE at war with these people. They attacked us.

My 2 cents is that we choose to defend ourselves. What are we giving up by doing that? If we don't, then we don't have freedom. But, rather death and destruction. Just what the enemy wants.

That would be great. If, that's what we were doing. But, we're not. Our borders are wide open. Airport security is a joke. The government is watching us, and the terrorists are slipping right past them.

Yeah, its to bad. But, I would have to agree.

You would think that since 9/11, almost 10 years ago, we would have this system perfected. But, our government is so wrapped up in protecting the guilty at the expense of the innocent, that they could destroy us. Or, at the very least, cause us significant harm.

I just watched Obama's speech on this matter. I don't believe a word he said. Its all been said before. Nothing but excuses in my mind. They are not serious at defending America.

What does any of that have to do with the fact that a white American commited a terrorist act? Oh, that's right, nothing at all, just deflection, we now return you to your regularly schedueled programming.
If airport security was profiling people, they would have stopped every attempted attack since 9/11.
BS, pure, and utter, unquantifiable BS. Changing ones appearance is not hard, going from not having a bag, to bringing a bag is not hard. You think that if terrorist knew that we were looking for one thing, they wouldn't go as another? Naive at best. Profiling is usless if one knows they are being profiled and still wants to commit a crime. And if they started profiling, who's going to do it? The same ineffectual TSA agents? Or should we start another branch of government to supplement them? Where do you stop once you start your "profiling"? Do you even know? Or is it one of those, "well as long as it doesn't effect me" things?

Armchair QBing the War on Terror™ is a lot easier than being in it.
