can I just replace the 3 position switch in the upper rear corner (hold) with a 2 position? I broke the switch accidently, so I opened the case and got the broken one off the board, but I want to replace it with a 2 position one now that I have the chance...

two kids? how'd that happen? time to zip'm up!!!

No. Once the switch has been replaced, then the software needs to be recalibrated so that it "knows" that you replaced a 2-position switch with a 3-position switch. The service software is only available to authorized Futaba service centers.

I guess I will just have one less switch.. this is silly, I hate having a 3 pos there, I'd rather leave it empty.

thanks for the reply

Depending on which is the most important position to you, on or off, just program two on's or two off's, so then it works as a two position switch.

thanks, I'm aware how to set it so it will work with two postions, but I never have liked using it that way... it just feels clunky for a hold switch. I love the radio, but that one little thing bugs me.

I can't see why a two position switch wouldn't work. I've not opened my 12fg to meter out the switch but i'd guess that the switch just closes one contact or the other and leaves an open circuit at the centre, as long as the two position is wired to emulate two of the positions of the original and the programming is correct for those two positions it should be fine.

Definitely, you can. You just will loose one switch state.

Maybe get a replacment switch and take it apart and replace the ball , spring , ramp with one from a 2 position switch . The switches on 9c all have the same body just different ramps inside . Maybe get a replacment switch and take it apart and bench test it .
