I am having trouble with this maneuver and I still cannot even do with the phoenix simulator.

I have no problem entering this normal nose down upright funnel; My entry is by doing a fast forward flight followed by a bank turn but with lots of rudder input to get the tail pointing upright (nose pointing towards the ground). After entering the funnel, however, I have a hard time maintaning it. It will be out of whack in less than a turn.

How do you sustain it without getting it off the track?

Which stick or combination of sticks do you need to move to control the altitude and the size of the funnel.

I have no problem in doing the hurricane, and I think it is about the same by just always get the tail pointing upright, but it seems not to be the case.

Thanks,

Rudy

All corrections should be made with the elevator at first. Then once you get that down you can tighten up the funnel by standing the heli on it's nose more, however it will take more collective ie..power to compensate for the loss of lift. Also if you do not have the tail positioned behind the heli at 90 degrees to the rotation then any elevator correction is not going to control the altitude but instead will control the speed of the funnel.

Hope this helps

I just follow you advice by correcting the elevator first, and it works a lot better.

Should I use just the elevator or both the elevator and the throttle to control the altitude?

What about the size of the funnel?

just practice sideways flight with the right side going first. do circuits and fig 8s. pretty soon you'll be doing upright funnels both nose up and nose down, in the wind, big, small, fast, slow.

Thanks for everyone input. I am finally able to do it in the sim. I do take a look at the information found in littlerotors.com. I figure out that I need to use both the throttle and the elevator to control the altitude, and also the aileron to control the tightness of the funnel. It is easy to do but very difficult to master.

don't get frustrated. Practice makes perfect. It took me a little awhile to learn the upright funnel and it is easier for me going one way than it is the other.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Figure 8 Funnel?

My next question is how to do the figure 8 funnel? What stick control do I need to change to make it rotate the other direction?
