For the past month or so now Ive been trying to snap up a 50 inch plasma tv, but I keep seeing them advertised for $1099, but then when I contact the shop its always exactly the same line:

"we sold out of them just yesterday, but we do have this one over here for $1299 thats also on special"

It doesent matter what place I go to, its always the same, I never realized how blatently these guys use the old "bait and switch" routine, its got to the point now I refuse to pay $1299 on principle.

i bought a 50" LG 600hz for $999 at a local independently owned appliance store few months ago. i would have paid $1200 for it as long as im contributing to my local economy. wish they still made tvs in america. 95% of all electronics are made in the republic of china.

only way ill ever make the jack is if i work at a cheese factory

I actually saved over 700.00 buying 2 tv's by not getting them locally, I did give the local guys a chance at price match though.

Still not sure if they are assembled in the U.S.

Anyway my wife bought me a 50" Samsung plasma 720p on sale at Sears for $799.99 I thought about upgrading it to 1080p but decided not to. I dont have a Blu-ray player or HD programing. I do have an X-box 360, the grafix on the 720p are so awsome compared to my old tv, I dont think Im missing anything without the 1080p.

I am watching the sales though, comming up on Superbowl season I think there are usually sales on TV's. I have 30 days to return it for any reason if a good sale does pop up.

Honestly i think the only way you actually can really view 1080p is from a bluray player. Most HD broadcasting is in 720, so your right your really not losing out on anything.

Regardless, 720 or 1080, Im not the type to buy a Bose stereo system to listen to the nuances of music any more than I am willing to pay extra every month to Dish Network for HD programming

Well, as my wife said to me the first time I played something on my Bose DishHD BluRay setup...."Wow, we were really missing a lot!"

If she could appreciate the difference, that was enough said in my view.

(of course she likes the bose for the size not for the sound but appreciates both)

Wait..what!?!?! No, that can't be!

1080i is still VERY nice. Much nicer than 720i or 720p.

However, I am VERY particular.

Wait..what!?!?! No, that can't be!

Vizio not Made In America. They just claim that they're American company.

All of the TV companies out there with known American brand like Maganavox, Philips(European actually), RCA, CurtisMathes, Sylavinia, GE are made by world largest TV manufacture in China, they just put their name on it, change a few things and market in America. Basically good to have a Brand that people recognize.

Vizio TV I have seen are made in China and Mexico. Parts are also made in China and Mexico, probably Designed and Engineered in USA.

Not much electronic is made in American now, its pretty sad actually. When I used to live in Bay Area I can goto place that made Motherboard and buy one, fresh out of SMT machine. Also did the same with Modem's and Video Cards as well. Used to work at companies that made HDD ribbon cables as summer job. Now we want to be all advance and stuff, now Chinese can design, engineer, compete in price only thing they don't have is Marketing.
