Ive got my 500ESP kit built, now its time to add some electronics! I had a GY 401 on my Titan... and have read they are good for the 500 ESP, so unless someone has a better suggestion, I'll probably to the 401 and a S9257. Not sure what kind of charger to get for the batteries... And I plan on going with the DX7SE... does it matter which receiver I use or are they all pretty much the same?

Also, anybody know where I can read up on battery care? I dont even know what the "S" stands for in 5S, 6S, etc!

I'd use the AR7100 if you want 2048 resolution.

Are you doing any hard core 3D?. The only thing i don't like about the 401 gyro is the pirouettes. It's inconsistance and sometimes blows out on hurricanes manuvers. Sport flying is fine with the 401 or even some mild 3D. On the RX(receiver), you might want to try the AR6200 vs. the AR7100 unless money is no issue. On the tail servo,i don't think there is such a servo from Futaba 9457, maybe 9257 is what you have. Tail servo is fine along with the 401 gyro if you're not pushing that very hard.

P.S.- "S" on lipo's means Series.LOL

5S, 6S...

You're new to electrics...

"S" stands for wired in SERIES. "P" stands for wired in PARALLEL.

Two 3V 1000 mah battery cells wired in SERIES will give you one 2S pack that will give you 6V output at 1000 mah total energy capacity.

Two 3V 1000 mah battery cells wired in PARALLEL will give you one 2P pack that will give you 3V output at 2000 mah total energy capacity.

The diagram below will explain series wired vs parallel wired.

If you really want to step up to a seriously good gyro, consider the Inertia 860 teamed up with that S9257.

-----

For batteries consider the Hobby King Turnigy 2650 mah 6S 30C packs:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/...?idProduct=9268

And for a charger, consider this:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/...alancer/Charger

I bought a DC power supply to run my charger like this one:

http://www.commonsenserc.com/produc...products_id=648

It allows me to run the charger off AC current at the house instead of using a battery or generator.

-----

As for LiPo care and charging -- there is a lot of information out there.

If you order from Hobby City which is a good source to get any batteries/charger now since it's cheaper. Make sure at the end of the order you select EMS delivery!!. That was one of my mistakes is selecting the Boat trip.LOL. Which i am stll waiting for about 2weeks now for my batteries to arrived!.LOL

Careful with the DX7 SE, if my memory serves me correctly it doesent have a connector for useing it on your sim, if you want to use phoenix simulator or ever may need to use as a budy box you may be better going with the standard DX7.

I dont know why in there wisdom they decided to make it with no connector, but they did.

For a good fling 500, i'd suggest
6S 2500 20C or better
scorpion 1600 motor and 13t pinion
2500-2800 headspeed ( i like 2600)
hitec 5245 or 9650 servos on cyclic
9257 or 9254 on tail
401 or 520 or spartan for gyro.
radix blades

i have to disagree with the 401 a bit. although piro consistency isn't phenomenal, if set up properly, the 401 can hold pretty good for 3D. Mine has no problems with tail slides, funnels, hard tic-tocs (any orientation) and the like. I'd say if your only starting into 3D, you'll be fine with the 401. when you start to get into more pirouetting maneuvers and find the consistency isn't as good as what you would like, then upgrade.

DO spend the time to optimize the setup though, make sure tail is running smooth, play with gain and servo arem length on the tail servo until you can get the best combo of speed vs torque vs gain.

I think a lot of folks never take the time to set up a gyro correctly, and put on a better gyro, which masks the setup issues.

oops, add to that list a cc ice or pheonix at least 60 amp and run in governor mode with the latest firmware. very stable and very locked in tail. Then no need to mess with curves!!

Yes, the DX7SE does NOT have a buddy box port on it. The mods the Spektrum folk did to the SE to get the 11ms latency made it unique and incompatible with the other JR/Spektrum buddy box systems.

You will NOT be able to use the DX7SE with any sim, and you cannot buddy box with anyone, if that's an important feature for you.

Never quite understood that decision.. unless you have multiple radios, you will want to pay attention to that feature..

From the DX7SE addendum, here is the word on why the trainer function is gone:
Trainer Function
Because the DX7se operates at the faster 11-millisecond frame rate, the trainer system is no longer compatible with other transmitters. Note that the trainer functions and screen have been removed from the system.
You get speed, or compatibility with another transmitter...as with most decisions in life, one choice eliminates the other...
