Just got a JY401 GYRO which is equal to the GY401 It didnt come with a Servo. Besides the 9254 that comes with the GY401 is there a less costly servo that can be used instead?

what type of flying do you want to do? I've flown a Raptor with a 401 running a Hitec 525 on the tail and it held pretty well for just normal flying around. If you want to run a low frame rate analog servo just make sure the gyro can support the lower frame rate and set it up properly.

If thats one of those knock offs i'd be leary of the claim 'equal to a 401'

Servo info needed please

Just Regular foward flight nothing fancy for a while. I read the reviews for this gyro and its pretty good for the fraction of the price.

the just get a standard servo for the tail and try it out. The faster and more accurate the better. This is why I like the Hitec 525, it's a 5-pole motor and pretty quick especially if you run it at higher voltage 6-6.5V (5 cell Nickel type pack)

Whatever servo you use on the tail make sure it has a lot of torque. You want to be sure that it can handle anything from holding with the gyro to doing piro's. The Hitec is a good servo for everyday flying. Dont let cost be your judge for your tail...very important servo.

Fly it like it's your buddys bird

I bought a HITEC HS-635HB. Its Rated at 0.18sec @4.8 High torque.
I installed the servo and hovered for a few minutes and it seems to hold pretty good. Will have to try some forward flight and see how it handles. The only bad thing is that it started raining during my tests. Oh well will have to try again later.

Those are pretty good servos, I have quite a number of them. When you are ready for a better tail servo I have a Hitec 6965 on the tail of my Trex-700 and have been surprised at how well that flys. I get long tail slides with a solid hold through the pull out followed by tail first loops. I've ran my Hitec servos on straight LiFePO4 (A123) battery this last season, they like the higher voltage.

OK thanks i'll keep that in mind when i can afford a better servo.
It's just been about 6 years since i've flown. I used to be an instructor but i have to get back into the groove.
