That thing is pretty different. I read an article on it in RCHeliMag a couple years back... Something about it and the Reflex sim. The article went into customization of the radio via movable switches and dials. Though it doesn't appear very configurable...

a long time in the making, a long list of features to now compete with...

there is a lot of competition in the transmitter market these days...

- lipo/1i-ion powered
- built-in telemetry
- low latency

The programming will have to be up to par with the latest from JR/Hitec and Futaba all of whom have been incrementally trying to one-up each other particularly within the last 12-months (Aurora, 8FG, 11x, x9503, SD10G, etc.)

This radio has been in limbo for quite some time. It'd be nice to see some more competition.

Good luck!

And Airtronics, including the venerable old (fast) Stylus and the new SD-10G
SD10G, etc
... which you wisely included.

The iVol will have quite an uphill battle if it means to compete with what's already recently available. It had better be fast (equal to or less than 11 ms latency) and it had better have deep swash control including 140° eCCPM.

Screen is way too small for displaying advanced menus very well.

It looks like something Lego would make.

Could appeal to the Gaming Generation

My son saw this Tx and was very excited. Seems his view is that this is a Tx for the Gaming generation. It looks like a PS3 or XBOX remote controller. Just because it resembles these controllers this Tx will appeal to a generation of gamers who are familiar with this style. The time they have spent over the years playing video games with this controller will possibly bring them more easily into Radio Control.

Maybe JR and Futaba should offer a simliar Tx just to appeal to this age group. Could be a big payoff of new flyers.

Just my take on it.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

Considering myself to be a gamer as well, I have to agree with this statement. I definitely felt it looked like a video game controller when I first saw it. But it looks like the old style nintendo controller instead of the next gen consoles, just MO though. Maybe it's the red color

Hmmmm... still smells of vaporware to me

This has been "in the works" for years now, hasn't it? Neat concept, you're supposed to be able to change out the black parts for different types of handles, and it's supposed to go from running Reflex to actually being your transmitter.

I haven't heard anything about it in a while.

So, what do you all think? Vapor?

I saw the these specs and pics in 2007 then heard nothing.

I agree it will appeal to the young generation. We had a club night before Xmas and jet test pilot from the 1950's came and gave a talk. The first thing he said was where were the kids and why was the club void of members younger than 30 ? He is right - this is a shame and something like this may pull some young ones in.

The specs say you can also program the thing entirely on a PC, then test with your Reflex model then go fly the real thing. Neither JR, Specktrum or Futaba can be edited on a PC. Even my 14mz with USB sockets and PC Compatible memory stick still has no way to even view a model configuration on a PC. This defy's logic.

This functionality is well overdue.
