How long would one normally expect a dry suit to last ?

It would depend on the type of dry suit. If you keep the zippers waxed and take care of them they will last a long time. You can also send them out and have new seals put in if they are bad or you buy a used suit that needs a different size seal to fit you.

Types of dry suits.
Neoprene Foam
Crushed Neoprene
Coated Fabric Vulcanized Rubber

Sorry I really did not answer your question.
I bought a used suit once. It was about 6 years old. Worked fine for me.
