I have wanted to get a Mikado for a while now. I have a Trex 500 ESP and recently purchased new gear to revamp and refresh it. I am wondering if I should skip the rebuild and rekit with a Logo 400. I'll tell you what I have and you guys tell me if i could reasonably use it on the 400.

Align 425D main blades and the 72mm carbon tails
Spektrum AR7600 Rx
TP 6S 30C 2700mah x4
the new Align 500M motor
CC ICE 75A ESC
obviously the three Align DS510s
and a JR DS3500G with mini-G gyro

I would want to go FBL and was wondering what I would need to buy/sell to get the Logo in the air. Obviously the Trex 500 airframe is the first to go (I still have the original motor and ESC as well). I submit the above to the experts for scrutinizing. Thanks. C.J.

You can get rid of the gyro and rx. The mini-v has a rx built in, but you will need satellites

I must add that I am completely new to FBL helis. Is the software pretty easy to setup? Also, is that a good power setup? And, will the Align servos be sufficient?

I was in he same boat. (No idea about flybarless).
I got the 400 and I am very happy with it. If you have any questions there are few guys here that will help you.
And the beauty about the 400 is that you can build it in few hours.
I am so happy with it that I got a 600 Logo for Xmas. It is ready, but it is raining here in North California.

Anyone have an opinion on the power setup? Would I be better off with a Scorpion 1600 or 1400 Kv? The new Align motor is 1600, but it almost doubled the max Watts.

I run a Logo 400 V-bar with a Castle Creations HV85 ESC, Scorpion HK-3026-1600 V2 motor, and 18 tooth pinion for 2700 to 2800 head speed. This setup gives ridiculous amounts of power, more than I could ever use IMHO.

IMHO, an 18 tooth with the Scorp. 3026-1600kv does make insane power, but it is harder on batts, and unless you are the MASTERSMACKDOWNER, probably don't need it. It will drive the head speed pretty high, more than most need.

We use the 3026-1400kv with an 18tooth @ 2700 head speed, and the little heli has all the performance most anyone could use. In return, the flights are longer, batts run cooler, and all is well (-:

My friend had the "can" come loose on his scorpion while in flight on his 500. Are they reliable in the long run? The Align 500M specs are similar to the scorpion 1600. So I assume the 17T pinion would be the way to go then. I don't think I could get much if I sold the Align motor, even though its new. I'm on a budget, so I'd like to keep what I can. Thanks.

I had a whole slew of issues with my scorpion 1600's on my trex 500. Went through two of them and finally gave up and went back to the stock motor.

It was a small sacrifice in power but a tremendous amount of peace of mind knowing that the motor isn't going to fall apart.

Get the hacker motorset combo, all the power you need at a good price,we run 2700 headspeed on this combo and it's wild, personally although the scorpions make good power i prefer the hackers and kontroniks for their low maintenance and lesser amp draws

Common sense may not be common after all

I found that if you ran the Hacker motor set @2700 it was not very efficient at all. If you are going to have a motor that gives you shorter fight times, you might as well have the power to go with it. Scorpion gets my vote...........Ron

Thanks for everyone's input. I sold the Trex 500, the 500M, and the 425Ds. I am going to go with the scorpion motor. I am having a hard time deciding the Kv motor to get. The way I see it, I have 3 options:

1600 Kv
1400 Kv
and the new 1450 Kv

Any input would be helpful. Here is a link for the new HK 4015-1450.

I don't do smackdown 3D, but I do enjoy power-on-demand. Thanks.

EDIT: I don't want to destroy my TP packs either. What's the middle of the road choice?

Take all this with a grain of salt, because we haven't tried the new motor yet. The new one is a little heavier and cost more, but looks like (by specs), a real power house...which means if you use the power (we all do when it's available), then flights will be shorter, batteries work harder etc.

Remember with the V-Bar on the Logo 400, it's like adding power (about 15%). Based on your latest comments that you don't "smackdown", and want to be easy on your packs, the 3026-1400 really does provide super performance on a V-Bar equipped Logo 400, and everything runs cool.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Sounds like what I need. I used the headspeed calculator and it looks like a 19T pinion would give me 2650 RPM governed at 80%. Should I drop to the 18T and increase the governer a bit? It looks like I would have to set the governor too high to reach 2700 and would have no ceiling for the governor. Thanks.

Or maybe get both and see what the data log from the CC ICE shows along with the battery temp?

You may want to consider a full size tail servo. I may be mistaken but I think the 3500 is a mini right? Some guys get minis to run ok, but there are a lot who have problems with them. A popular choice is the BLS251, which I've run from day one with no problems. I can't comment on the Align cyclics, but the 9650s with metal gears (MKS 9660) are also a good choice if you change your mind.

I also run the Hacker motor set, and again, have had zero problems in around 215 flights now. My headspeed is 2700 on an 18T pinion, running for 5 minutes on a 6S 3300 pack. Performance is great for my flying style, and the pack has a bit of reserve based on the 80% rule.

Due to budget constraints I can only have 1 heli at a time, but I really love the Logo 400 Vbar, I don't think I'll ever fly anything else now! Hope you enjoy it.

On my fbl logo 400, i use the scorpion 1600 with a 15T pinion running 2500-2600 rpm. Its very powerful and easy on all the electronics as it is geared down quite nicely and never bogs.

Here is a data log

hope that helps

I forgot to update my choices for what I am going to put in the Logo. That might help.

Logo 400 w/ Mini Vbar
Futaba S9650s x3
Futaba BLS251
Castle Creations ICE 75A
Scorpion 1400Kv
Edge 423mm FBL
Align 72mm Tail Blades ( I have to wait for the Edge 72mm blades, they are still in development accordingly to Readyheli.)

I am also going to get the carbon tail case and the Custom Heli Parts bridge/brace for mounting the Mini Vbar.

2500 rpm i think. I set it to 2500 but when i open the castlelink software, it always reads about 25 rpm more, so i put in 2500, and it will say 2525 or so. It may be because it has to be a multiple of the number of motor poles i'm guessing or something to that effect.
