I just wanted to hear peoples thoughts on what gyro's they are using in there gassers, If some are better suited to gas than others!

I am currently using a gy611 in my radical, and it is working alright, but im not convinced it is the toughest gyro when dealing with the vibration of gas. I have the tail preety solid now, but every once and a while there is a slight wag however it is below 32f here so im sure that has an impact.

Do proctologists chew there finger nails when there nervouse?

Spartan

Everyone who used one always said they seem to be the best for gassers.

I've used the 401, 601, and 611's. Personally I liked the 601/611's better than the 401. I think they handled vibrations better and also provided for a constant pirouette rate.

The 401 is fine for ap work or experimental helicopters like UAV's that I worked on, but when it gets down to 3D I prefer the higher versions of Futaba gyros.

That being said I would like to try a Spartan some day. I did try to sell my 601 to get a some funds for a Spartan, but there wasn't much interest and I don't need a 601 in the 'bin' so to speak.

I'm using a Spartan on my gasser and I have say that it's the best holding gyro I've used. I have the Spartan/BLS251 combo on a Spectra G.

My Spectra G has a Logictech 6100 on it, the Radikal has a JR 770, of the two I like the JR better.

I'm using the Solid G with the BLS 251 and it holds nicely. I use the thick gel tape and it seems to isolate the vibes really well. I used the 401 prior to this until it gave up the ghost (many years and many Helis later).

Guys, where can I get the gel tape for the gyro? I have a Radikal that I'm running a 401 on with futaba mounting tape and would like to try others.

Thank you,

I'm using the Align PU adhesive gel (the blue stuff) to hold the JR gyro on my Radikal, available just about anywhere that sells Align parts. Not as thick as Zeal tape, but you can layer it if you want it thicker. I'm using one layer and it's been fine with that.

It stayed put through a fairly hard... ahem... landing... ummm... sort of...

I agree, the Zeal tape is great for gasser vibrations on gyros. I have a Logictech 6100 on my Predator and it works better for me than the 401 did. Both gyros worked well however my Futaba 9254 servo got real warm and was overworked. The Logictech seems to run much cooler.

I just purchased a 520 gyro but I have herd nothing about it in a gasser.

One mile of road will take you one mile. One mile of runway will take you anywhere in the world.

gyro

Another vote for spartan - no issues on any of my gassers, fit and forget even for 3d

I also have found the gy401 works well with 2 tape layers and metal sheild, better than either the 502 or 601 I have tried, both had some drift and vibration related issues. However the 401 is not so good in backwards inverted flight, it easily swaps end without warning.

If I could afford it - it would be spartan all the way.

I may try a spartan, I am having good results with my 611 now that i have put smaller tail blades on and moved the servo arm ball to 8mm from center.

However I am curiouse to see haw the spartin will do, if I dont like it I can always put it in my trex 450pro it currently has a gy240 which I dont like.

I had a CSM SL720 on my Spectra and try as I might I couldn't get rid of a persistent tail drift on it. I'm in the process of rebuilding it and I shall be testing it with JR 770 as I use these on my nitro's and find them excellent. May not get the same result with the vibration on a gasser but who know's.

I'm using the JR 770 on my Radikal it's rock steady, I think you'll find it works just as well on a Spectra.

I think I'm going off the zeal..I think it's too thick and has inherent side-wobble. There was no discernable difference when I took it of my spectra and tried the standard 611 fixing..and when i had the zeal on I needed velcro over the top of it to help steady it.

I've got some of the thinner align gel pad I'll try next.. but with everyone singing the praises of spartan.. and the hope that with the quark coming out the original will drop in price...I might just end up moving the 611 to my 12S600 and find a new heli to put on it's 401..
