Question 1: The instructions state to keep the receiver and the Speed Controller 5cm apart and in most every installation I see I find the speed controller in the right side location on the side frame and the receiver under the tail boom frame mount. There definitely is not 5cm of space between them.

Is this not an issue?

Question 2: I installed the motor and pinon with the stated 1 mm of overlap on the main drive gear my question is about gear lash. I know that the plastic main gear is not a perfect circle and therefore the gear lash will change during the rotation.

I set the gear lash to barely any movement between the pinon and the main drive gear. I wish I could provide an actual measurement value for you but lets call .005 to .010. I can just see barely see the play between the two.

Is this ok?

As far as gear mesh.. set it slightly tight on the high spot of the main gear.. the rest of the time the gear will be perfect and the slightly tight mesh on the main gear high spot will quickly wear in after a few minutes.

Here are a couple pics from my gallery of my 500.. Check out my placement of equipment..

It seems the 5cm statement in the book is not mission critcal to be exactly 5cm or more. I'm going to bias it as forward as I can and then the receiver as much to the rear.

I fly Futaba and plan on using the receiver that came with my 10CHG (R6014 HS)

Thank you for the gear lash comments, I'm going to go over it again at first pre-flight again to make sure its set to as we stated.

The 5 cm distance is more critical if you are using a 72 MHz receiver instead of a 2.4 GHz receiver. It's a good idea to keep the two apart no matter what, but the 72 MHz (35 MHz, too) radios are more susceptible to the noise radiated by the ESC than the 2.4 GHz systems are.

It's still wise to use the ferrite toroid on the cable between the ESC and any RX, however, as it's there to keep the power supply going to the RX clean.

A more critical item is to separate the ESC from the Gyro. Noise radiated by the ESC can adversely affect the Gyro's sensitive circuitry.

I have my ESC on the lefthand side, and my receiver up on the boom block - it's well protected by the frames, and further than 5cm away from the ESC.

Regarding the gear mesh, I run mine quite loose and have had zero problems. I think a looser mesh helps reduce loads on the electrical system and maximises available power - also watch the mesh as it can tighten up in flight due to the main shaft play in the bearing blocks.

I have a questions about the tail push rod guides on the tail tube. They are very loose, what are you folks doing to secure these? I didn't find anything in the instructions about using either expoxy or anything else for that matter.

I see on page 14 where they talk about using scotch tape to shim the horizontal mount but in the case of atleast the ESP kit and the metal mount this shimming is not an issue. They simply ignore any mounting instructions for the tail control guides.

The cable ties included in the kit, installed as per this drawing taken from the 500 assembly manual:

I then put a small shot of thin CA on, let it wick in, then hit it with some accelerator.
