A few days ago I received another package from KBDD.
The package contained two sets of very bright orange head dampers for the Trex 450 Pro (prototypes for testing). These were designed specifically for the Pro and are a direct replacement for the stock Align Dampers (they actually fit a bit better than the stock ones).
They are much, much, much harder than the stock dampers!
A bit of silicon grease on the dampers and about 1/2 hour's labor and they were installed.
Due to weather and a long "to do" list, it took me until today to get the chance to test fly them. I had very limited time and was only going to put in three flights then leave for home. As it turns out, the helicopter flew so well with the new dampers that I stuck around and flew it six times.
The cyclic was noticeably crisper than with the stock dampers and a bit faster around center. The machine felt more precise, but was still very smooth in forward and backward (inverted} flight and larger aerobatics.
The helicopter was no more difficult to fly than it was with the stock dampers.
One thing that I did not expect was that slow rolls were better and flatter than before. I seem to be able to stretch the rolls even more than previously (I love doing slow long rolls). This is not something that I thought would be a benefit from firmer dampers-I am not sure if this is really from the dampers or the increased confidence that they provide to the pilot through better cyclic control.
The dampers work great, both for smooth flying and for flipping the machine around.
I will not be going back to the stock dampers-ever!
So now my ship has KBDD Paddles (still using the rear hole in the paddles), Pro Tail Blades, and Head Dampers-all fluorescent ORANGE (OK-you can't see that the dampers are orange, but I know they are!).
