Should be prime time whale watching this time of year so go on a boat tour for that. When I was there, they had left already in May. The Luau we went to on Maui was fun as well. Good times!
I'm jealous

snorkle at hanauma bay (oahu) is inexpensive. Walk the canal if you're staying in waikiki. Check out the full-scale soaring at dillingham airport on the northwest side of oahu. (you can take the controls in a two-seater sailplane [with a certified pilot in the other seat] and soar the mountain slopes adjacent to dillingham airport; I've done this a couple of times and it's a tremendous experience)

Maui - stop at lahaina and see the sights. If you really want to see rugged tropical beauty you need to visit Kauai. That's my favorite.

We've had two blizzards here in December. I'd like to be visiting the islands myself right now.

fwiw..

Imho, diving in Hawaii is not tremendous...But if you hit Maui, take a boat to Molokini crater..The back side is best but is a wall dive...The inside of the crater is rocky, shallow, and you get to swim with sharks...

Sharks!!!! I'm not that adventurous, but the wall dive sounds pretty cool, I'll leave the shark petting to someone with less love of live than me!! XGM/VGM

The things to do while your there is really over whelming. The jet lag for the wife and I killed the first 2 days we where there. When we go back I'm getting the heli tour! Then the road to Hana and what ever I can find. Part of the whole experience is just having fun and flying by the seat of your pants and go with the flow. I had fun just setting on the beach drinking, watching the bikini's!

I love Hawaii! Last time we visited I was seriously looking into getting a job and moving, but the cost of living and housing seemed to be prohibitive.

If you do the road to Haunu I would recomend getting a Jeep Wrangler with a soft top. Take the top off and enjoy. A Jeep sets you up a bit higher that a convertable car and the views are amazing.

I loved the little shrimp shacks on the side of the road. On Oahu there is an old surf town. I forget the name of it, but on the way to it there is an old bus on the side of the road that is a shrimp shack. They have the best shrimp I have ever had in my life. The volcano and cocunut shrimp were my favorits.

Last trip to Oahu we stayed in a beach house out of the main city and the experince was 100 times better than staying in a fancy hotel downtown. We found a little locals eating place on the way to the PCC in a little shopping plaza that was awesome. We had to split the breakfasts because nobody could finish them.

Pearl Harbor is somehwere I would highly recommend and make sure and do the tour with the boat ride out to the remains of the sunken ships.

Maui is my favorite island and I've had a lot of fun there in the past.

Ths snorkeling is great at Hanama Bay and Sharks cove, parasailing is a blast, helicotper tours are breat taking, the food is great pretty much everywhere, the PCC is awemose (do their most expensive luao - the food and entertainment is great), Pearl Harbor is a must see, road to Hauna is a LONG relaxing drive through beatiful terain, and the list goes on and on. Keep a close eye on your stuff and if you get a convertible or soft top Wrangler don't leave anything of value in your car.

Most important of all - if you go snorkeling (which I would definately encourage) put on lots of sun screen before and during. I made a huge mistake and went out without suncreen and got bad blisters all over my back and shoulders.

Enjoy the trip and try not to spend all your money because you'll be wanting to go back in another couple months.

Do a lot of eating and driving here on Maui. First stop to eat when leaving the airport is "Da Kitchen" located just behind krispy kreams. Go to a luau, i like the "Old Lahaina Luau" on front street lahaina. Do some walking on front street, lots of shops and restuarants. Drive past Kapalua, and enjoy the scenery, you can walk down to a blow hole. Go swimming in Kaanapali in front of the hotels and walk the hotel grounds, Hyatt & Westin, shop at Whalers Village. If you like watching shows go see "Ulalena" also on front street. Whale watching & snorkling. In the Kihei/Wailea area lots or beaches to go swimming. Shops at Wailea, and walk around the Grand Wailea Hotel. A drive up country is a nice drive also. Lots of things to do, but most of all, enjoy the natural beauty and the friendly people here on the Island of Maui.

Aloha,
Cliff

hmm

my old Marine corps vacation.

Dive at Electric beach on Ohahuu. Not sure the beach is physically since its been 10 years, but there is a power plant I think on the other side of the highway that feeds hot water too sea and there is some very cool diving there.

On the base or near it there is a dive shop. They can setup dives for a sunken boat. Atleast when I was there.

Dole pinaple plant is tasty if you like them.

I think Leon that flies gassers is on one of the islands.

I would second that you have to eat at "Da Kitchen". The pulled pork there is awesome. We went there almost every day.
