Ok,
helping out a buddy with a gasser.
Trying to dial indicate fan and clutch on Hansen G26 on a brand new Predator NX gasser.
What the heck can you actually dial? The fan is obviously cast rather than machined. The clutch itself cannot be dialed with the shoes throwing things off.
I am at a loss

Welcome to the deep joy of these things!
Your going to get all sorts of differing opinions here.. but one way:
I'd check indicate the cranshaft itself..not because I believe it's in any way out of true..but becasue it'll give you a feel for how much play you can cause in it's supports with side forces
Then on with the fan. Because it's on a taper and because it's probably warped (or with century I wouldn't necessarily believe it was true in the frst place).. a little tiflow first.. spin fan down the taper and see how it indiates..If you can then adjust your guage so it's just indicating the inside of the hub rather than the outer edge. Then the game begins..tring to twist it a tad and see if that gives a better indication,.. possibly a light tap with a rubber mallet to seat it better (they tell me that pounding seven bells out of it only makes you feel better and doesn't help the situation).
Once (if) you get below the target.. and you are after 0.001" or better.. then see what happens as you dog it down..

Then take a deep breath and start agan..

If you ever get it half way reasonable then go for the clutch. Here you only have 4 options of position.. But if it's sloppy in there then you may even be able to adjust it a touch with some tape and differential dogging of the side screws..You points to dial can only be across the poach as opposed to along the leaves.. so it's a couple of arcs on the solid bit each side

If it's really way out and not just you then consider sending it back..

I've spent as long as 4 hours, a break and another 2 getting this right.. but then I'm a clutz and often have to dial the top of the fan vertically to decide on high sides, mark i with pencil etc, etc

Everyone else does it in a couple of minutes.. if you believe them

i found mine to be pretty true right off the bat (within .0005-.001)

Make sure to use triflow on the taper as the instructions state and you should be fine

if im not blade bogging youll find me pack puffing

jseninika, vatechguy, I have a fan puller that I used for my Predater 90. Don't know if it will work for the 26, but your welcome to borrow it if its the same.

Strangely, I just bought one of these helis Monday, my first gasser(thought $875 was a pretty good deal for the heli, 231 and muffler, + free shipping). Anyway have been pouring over the assembly manual and was looking over the fan/hub install. To me this is the worst part of any heli build. I have found in the past with my glow helis, that the hubs are often "out" of square on machining. I check the hubs in my lathe and generally they need a small(1 or 2 thou. clean up) If the supplied fan/hub is cast I dont see how one can get an accurate reading until the perimeter of the fan is trued. BTW does the 231 come with a recoil start?

See my gallery. use a ground pin in the clutch bearing and turn the pin in the direction that it grabs.

What makes it difficult for some people that don't have experience with an indicator is using the wrong type of indicator. A small stylus is important.

what size is the shaft in center?
If 8mm, I can use a spindle shaft from an RJX head.

I used a letter O drill blank for a pin. 8MM should be correct.

the best we were able to get was 0.004.

the engine shaft was 0.002 to start with before mounting the fan.

is there an aftermarket fan for the predator gasser?

thanks
