i just got a new Futaba 6EX 2.4ghz and the throttle stick is set to a ratchet style for airplanes. the owner's manual simply says to remove the rear case cover and swap the ratched plate on the throttle for a smooth one, but that's it. do i have to purchase the smooth plate? it doesn't appear to be included with the radio. thanks.

Just remove the current one. That's it.

If it was a NIB radio, it comes with the smooth ratchet piece. EAsy to replace. If not, just take the current one off, turn it over and adjust to your liking.

Really? Why do the instructions show a picture of a smooth one and specifically mention to replace the ratched one with the smooth one for heli use? Is it more of a suggestion? Thanks for the response, not trying to be argumentative.

It was advertised to me as NIB and I bought it under the impresson it was. It certainly appears to be brand new based on close inspection. I got the radio on ebay w/ no receiver and no servos, just Tx and battery/charger for $109.00. I did check the box looking for the smooth plate but there does not appear to be one.

I have the Tx rear cover off and see the ratchet plate, could swap it out and be done in 60 seconds if I had the smooth plate to replace it with...

In the days before both types of ratchet springs (flat piece of spring steel either with or without 'V' we would just turn over the piece so the smooth side is on the gimbal ('V' side out), not affecting the notches on the plastic piece that caused the 'ratchet feel'. Futaba issued with the 6EX's the extra piece and instructions for replacing it if you wanted the smooth feel. It is just as easy to reverse the current piece and adjust the tension to get the feel you want. I'm sure you could probably contact hobby services and order the piece if so desired. Original owner probably lost it as it is a rather small piece and was packaged in a small plastic bag.

Remove the phillips screw holding it on, flip it over and reinstall.

Yes, the idea of flipping the existing one over did occur to me. It just that it has some tapered edges near where it screws in that would prevent it from seating properly if flippd. Not that it wouldn't technically work.

Thanks for all the advice. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything and based on all your responses it seems I was not. Thanks!

Just wait until Monday, call Hobby Services and get a new spring.

If you can't flip it over and don't want to grind off the edges. Hobby services will send you a replacement, mine was free of charge.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.
